Position Description

The Precision Child Health (PCH) movement at SickKids is a transformative approach to healthcare that supports the tailoring of medical care to the unique characteristics of each child. This includes considering genetic, physiological, medical, and social determinants of health data, as well as patient and family preferences, to build a comprehensive understanding of the whole child. The goal is to change the way diseases are predicted, prevented, diagnosed, and treated, ultimately achieving unprecedented health outcomes. A key enabler to the success of the PCH movement is advancing a learning health ecosystem where patients and families can inform, participate in, and benefit from discovery, translation, and clinical research as part of their care
Reporting to the Executive Director of Precision Child Health and collaborating closely with leaders throughout the Hospital for Sick Children (SickKids) and the SickKids Research Institute (RI), the Program Manager will play a critical role in developing and implementing the SickKids Research Connect Program. This Program aims to address the challenge of connecting patients and families with research opportunities in a more streamlined, accessible, and equitable way. This position requires a dynamic individual with practical knowledge of learning health systems, clinical research methodologies, and inclusive practices for research participant engagement.
The Program Manager will be responsible for contributing to the design and execution of a program dedicated to ensuring that every patient and family at SickKids has equitable opportunities to participate in, and benefit from, relevant research opportunities. By leveraging expertise in both operational and collaborative domains, the Program Manager will help build and implement sustainable operational programming that supports patient-centered research participation across the institution.
Here's what You'll Get to Do:
Phase 1: Program Strategy and Governance (First 6 months)
Establish and maintain a robust governance structure for the SK Research Connect Program, including the formation of a steering committee and relevant working groups to ensure effective oversight, decision-making, and stakeholder engagement.
Drive engagement & build collaborations across SickKids during the development phase to ensure appropriate stakeholders across SickKids and consulted, have the opportunity to contribute and are informed.
Develop comprehensive 18-month pilot implementation plan including project overview, accountability framework, workstreams & deliverables, resource allocation, risk assessment and communication plan.
Phase 2: Program Design and 18 Month Pilot
Program Design - Leverage established governance and implementation plan (developed in phase 1) to lead the development of functional programming/ program structure. This may include development of SOPs, workflows, EMR and other technology builds, training materials, communication materials (e.g. website, flyers), and proposed budgets to support the successful launch of a pilot
Pilot phase - oversee the successful implementation of an 18-month pilot phase of the program including coordinating stakeholders, managing timelines and resources, monitoring progress and evaluating outcomes to inform full-scale rollout.
Evaluation & Recommendations - Translate data and learnings from pilot phase into actionable recommendations for full-scale implementation.
Here's What You'll Need:
Master's level in health administration, clinical research, or related field.
Minimum 5 years of experience in program management with proven ability to design, develop and implement programs in complex-healthcare and or research environments.
Superior analytical, problem-solving, and critical thinking skills - with demonstrated ability to analyze complex data and situations, identify root causes, and develop innovative, evidence-based solutions
Excellent communication (both written and oral) and interpersonal skills with the ability to create, facilitate, and deliver presentations, prepare documents/reports, synthesize and translate scientific or technical concepts to a diverse scope of audiences
Strong knowledge of research ethics & relevant privacy legislation including but not limited to TCPS2 and PHIPA.
Proven experience in designing and implementing strategies that promote diversity and equity in research participation, which may include developing inclusive recruitment plans, engaging underrepresented communities, creating culturally sensitive materials, etc.
Demonstrated experience in managing clinical research studies, which may include oversight of research activities and or teams; development of protocols; preparing and maintaining Research Ethics Board (REB) submissions; and overseeing study conduct/ monitoring progress to achieve study objectives.
Proven ability to engage patients, families, and community advisors as equal partners in program development.
Proficient in Microsoft Office tools (including SharePoint, Word, PowerPoint, and Excel) and video-conferencing platforms (Teams, Zoom).
Demonstrated commitment and actions in advancing equity, diversity, and inclusion objectives
Experience with EMR systems (EPIC preferred) and digital health solutions is considered an asset.
Familiarity with database management tools (e.g., REDCap) and version control systems is an advantage.
