Position Summary:
Reporting to the Senior Program Manager, Research & Innovation, the Research Program Manager will be responsible for the oversight and operational management of George Brown College (GBC) research programs. The incumbent will play a key role in securing and managing research and innovation funding and will be responsible for ensuring that project teams meet all project milestones, deliverables, and budgetary requirements. The Program will work as part of the GBC Office of Research & Innovation (ORI) team to stimulate and support an institution-wide culture of research and innovation by cultivating strong relationships with students, faculty, staff, and external partners.
Key Responsibilities:
Manages program and project teams, develops, and implements program plans and budget to effectively allocate resources, including equipment, space, and staff.
Assigns activities to project teams and works with them to ensure that all project deliverables meet or exceed stakeholder expectations.
Tracks program progress and budgets, monitors timelines, conducts procurement, ensures that targets are met, and reports on deliverables.
Prepares and oversees the execution of Research & Innovation contracts and agreements, prepares and submits amendments to contracts and agreements, including requests for timeline extensions, scope revisions and budget changes.
Identifies and mitigates risk that may affect successful delivery of ORI program commitments and keep ORI senior managers appraised of all issues and challenges.
Prepares financial reports and forecasting models, and contributes to the overall ORI budget planning, tracking, and forecasting activities.
Maintains consistent reporting processes, proactively identify missing or erroneous data, and works with the ORI operations team and senior managers to resolve or minimize immediate and future issues.
Liaises with Research & Innovation stakeholders, including GBC faculty, staff, administrators, senior leadership, funders, government agencies, professional organizations, and industry, community, and academic partners, to increase program awareness and interest in Research & Innovation activities.
Ensures compliance with the regulations, policies and guidelines governing research in a college environment including the GBC Integrity in Research and Scholarship policy, Research Ethics policy and Conflict of Interest in Research policies, and the Tri-Agency Financial Administration Guide.
Identifies funding opportunities and contributes to and supports the preparation and submission of funding proposals.
Contributes to the development of strategic Research & Innovation partnerships.
Works with GBC academic centres to integrate relevant Research & Innovation student learning opportunities into curricular activities.
Contributes to and supports the pursuit of opportunities that will provide experiential learning opportunities for students, contributes to long-term financial stability of Research & Innovation activities at GBC, and enhances GBC's reputation as a leader in this sector.
Other related duties as assigned.
Educational and Experience Requirements:
Four-year Degree from a recognized post-secondary institution and formal project management training are required, PMP certification would be an asset.
Three years of experience guiding faculty in research proposal development, monitoring, and reporting. With an understanding of Federal and Provincial funding requirements and reporting processes (including proposal development, budgeting, and reporting).
Three years of hands-on experience managing projects across disciplines with proven expertise in guiding projects through the entire lifecycle and a strong familiarity with project management methodologies and tools.
Must have experience developing and adapting processes, in particular Project Management processes for an organization.
Experience with scientific methods and in conducting research, research ethics and intellectual property training would be an asset.

Demonstrated ability to work as an effective member of a high performing team, including having experience building and growing teams.
