Your opportunity:
The Strategic Initiatives group in the Department of Computer Science is responsible for the development and success of the department's large-scale partnerships and long-term initiatives.
One of the newest initiatives in the portfolio is Electric Vehicle Innovations Ontario (EVIO). EVIO is an $8 million government-funded research initiative that aims to leverage expertise in AI and other advanced technologies from eight universities across Ontario, to commercialize, scale and grow Ontario's most innovative EV firms. As part of a highly professional, collaborative and supportive team, the EVIO Program Manager will play a critical role in leading this initiative.
Based at the University of Toronto, the EVIO Program Manager ensures that all EVIO operations run smoothly and successfully. This includes establishing operating and reporting protocols for all research hubs, navigating multi-institutional policies and procedures, and understanding and applying various government and funder requirements. The incumbent also supports the governance structure for EVIO, which includes both a steering committee and technology management committee.
This is a high-impact position that provides the operational infrastructure for innovative research outcomes and requires advanced project management skills, strategic thinking, strong negotiation skills, financial acumen, and a proven track record of relationship and stakeholder management across senior academic, government, and industry stakeholders.
This is a term position to March 2028.
Your responsibilities will include:

• Building and strengthening relationships with stakeholders and partners of strategic importance
• Planning and overseeing the implementation of research projects; developing project schedules including milestones, critical path, timelines, deliverables and reporting
• Planning and overseeing the implementation of an evaluation framework for programs and initiatives
• Overseeing day-to-day operational needs for one or more labs/workshops
• Planning and estimating financial resources required for programs and/or projects
• Producing complex reports involving statistical and/or financial information for funding agencies
• Analyzing complex statistical reports and/or financial information for management decision-making
• Providing potential industry collaborators with detailed information on policies and procedures that must be adhered to while working within the university environment

Essential Qualifications:

• Master's Degree in technology, commerce, economics, business administration, or management, or acceptable combination of equivalent experience
• Minimum five (5) years of experience in external relations, business development, stakeholder relations and/or venture management, with a combination of project, program and product management.
• Experience overseeing complex, multi-institutional research activities and project operations, with demonstrated experience developing and implementing operational plans and processes, and coordinating governance protocols and activities.
• Significant project management experience for complex projects, including the ability to set priorities, schedules, leverage and adjust allocation of limited resources,meet deadlines, liaise with multi-institutional stakeholders, establish and implement consistent tracking and reporting protocols, and resolve disputes.
• Proven experience in building and managing senior level relationships with government, private sector industry partners, academic research institutes, and government funding agencies.
• Experience with forecasting, planning, and monitoring complex budgets with multiple sources of revenue. Experience reconciling and reporting on complex funding accounts and performing cash-flow analyses.
• Demonstrated experience in developing professional correspondence, briefing documents, narrative and financial reports, governance committee materials, grant applications, and contracts.
• Experience contributing to knowledge transfer and research engagement activities including presenting on research findings and initiatives at conferences, workshops, and outreach events.
• Detail-oriented with the ability to manage multiple and competing demands simultaneously and meet deadlines.
• Demonstrated ability in cultivating and fostering networks of contacts and interests.
• Skilled in negotiation and conflict resolution across diverse institutional environments. Demonstrated ability to problem-solve issues in a creative and effective manner.
• Exceptional ability to exercise judgement and independent decision making.
• Ability to act with tact, discretion and maintain confidentiality.
