Collingwood Sailing Academy is seeking an organized, proactive, and enthusiastic
Program Manager
to lead and support our sailing school operations for the upcoming season. This role is ideal for someone with strong leadership skills, experience in program coordination, and a passion for youth development and sailing. The Program Manager plays a key role in ensuring daily program success, supporting instructors, maintaining safety standards, and creating a positive experience for all participants.
Responsibilities
Program Leadership & Coordination
Oversee daily operations of the sailing school, ensuring programs run smoothly, safely, and on schedule.
Support, mentor, and supervise instructors and camp counsellors, helping them deliver high-quality lessons and activities.
Coordinate weekly lesson plans, schedules, and program materials in alignment with SailCanada standards.
Communicate with parents/guardians as needed regarding program updates, student progress, and any concerns.
Staff Support & Training
Assist with pre-season and post-season setup, including equipment checks, classroom preparation, and staff orientation.
Provide ongoing coaching and guidance to instructors to ensure consistency in teaching quality and safety practices.
Model professionalism, teamwork, and positive leadership for all staff.
Safety & Risk Management
Ensure strict adherence to safety protocols on and off the water, including Swimming Standards, PFD enforcement, hydration routines, and emergency action plans.
Monitor weather conditions, fleet readiness, and student well-being to ensure safe operation at all times.
Respond quickly and effectively to on-water or on-shore incidents as required.
Equipment & Facility Oversight
Oversee dock rigging and de-rigging procedures; ensure boats and equipment are maintained daily, weekly maintenance schedules, are repaired as necessary, and properly stored.
Coordinate ordering or repair needs with Academy leadership (The Board).
Maintain overall cleanliness and organization of classrooms (the shed), tents, docks, and grounds.
Program Quality & Evaluation
Conduct weekly evaluations and provide constructive feedback to instructors and students.
Assist in designing engaging drills, activities, and games to reinforce skill development.
Promote a fun, inclusive, and supportive learning environment.
General Administration
Track attendance, certifications, and incident reports.
Support logistical tasks, such as managing inventory, scheduling, and communication with The Board.
Ensure seamless program flow across all sessions and weekly themes.
Skills & Qualifications
Experience in program coordination, youth leadership, or recreational program management.
Sailing experience is strongly preferred; Instructor or SailCanada certification is an asset.
Excellent organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.
Strong leadership abilities with experience supervising staff or volunteers.
Commitment to safety and familiarity with emergency action plans.
Ability to multitask, problem-solve, and maintain professionalism in a dynamic outdoor environment.
Ability to work independently while supporting a collaborative team culture.
