Ensure the successful implementation of the daily program in accordance with the Dearham Wood Daycare Program Statement and centre policies
Follow 'Early Learning for Every Child Today' (ELECT) and 'How Does Learning Happen?'(HDLH) frameworks to plan and implement developmentally appropriate and culturally responsive program plans for children 2.5 to 12 years old
Ensure compliance to 'Child Care and Early Years Act', 2014 (CCEYA), Toronto Children's Service's Assessment for Quality Improvement (AQI) standards, and Toronto Public Health's 'Infection Prevention and Control'(IPAC), in addition to other governing acts, regulations, by-laws
Actively demonstrate the principles in HDLH through the interactions with children and parents
Simultaneously supervise the group while interacting with children to ensure safe and engaging programming
Plan and implement play and inquiry based learning experiences and actively co-learn with children
Conduct observations of children to inform the development of program plans and their implementation; submit observations and plans to the management team for review each week
Create, display, and share pedagogical documentation of learning experiences; update monthly
Foster positive relationships with children and their families; update HiMama daily and respond to parent inquiries within the same day, within reason
Collaborate with all other teachers and staff to maintain a cohesive learning environment and to achieve identified goals and objectives
Maintain the physical environment and ensure optimal use of space, materials and furnishings to support children's learning and behaviour
Perform housekeeping tasks as required; maintain cleanliness and organization of classrooms, storage, and food preparation area
Continuously work to exceed compliance to AQI standards
Attend workshop and training sessions to maintain professional development
Demonstrate effective utilization of work-related time
Provide leadership and guidance to all team members as required
Work with the management team to plan opportunities for parent involvement in the programs and programming for non-instructional days (PA Days, Winter/Summer Break, etc.)
Assist with the development of shopping lists and the procurement of program supplies and materials
Assist the management team with operational and administrative tasks including team meeting agendas, staff schedules, program promotion, allergy lists, creating newsletter content, and other duties as they arise
Monitor and assist with centre compliance with CCEYA, ensuring that programs are completing playground checks, fire drills, temperature logs, etc. reporting any variances to the management team
Maintain accurate records and statistics for child care centre, maintain and update centre's daily log
Update and print attendance record templates for upcoming week
Participate in school and community events to promote the centre programs and liaise with the community
Perform additional tasks and duties as assigned by the management team
EDUCATION / CERTIFICATIONS
:
Completed Diploma in Early Childhood Education
Valid Certification in Standard First Aid and CPR/AED - Level C (WSIB approved)
Completion of CCEYA Self-Test
Safe Food Handling Certification an asset
QUALIFICATIONS
:
Registration in good standing with the College of Early Childhood Educators
Minimum 2 years experience working as a RECE in a licensed child care program
Ability to plan and implement developmentally appropriate and bias-free activities for Preschool / Kindergarten / School Age children
Possess excellent behaviour guidance skills that include positive reinforcement and redirection strategies
Experience working with children with diverse abilities
Proven ability to communicate in a professional manner with children, parents and staff
Excellent work ethics (be punctual, flexible, reliable)
Current and Clear Police Reference Check with Vulnerable Sector Screening
Up-to-date immunizations
Strong interpersonal and English communication skills (verbal and written
Ability to lift and carry children 15 - 30lbs as needed, as well as standing, walking, sitting and crouching for varied amounts of time depending on programming needs
