Grande Prairie is looking for three (3) creative and enthusiastic individuals to join our team for Curriculum Based Programs hosted in city facilities and other locations in the city. As a Program Instructor, you will be responsible for planning and implementing age-appropriate programming for school-aged children in a warm, welcoming, educational-based setting at a variety of locations such as schools, city facilities and outdoors. You will be a part of an energetic team devoted to the social, physical, emotional, intellectual, and relative development of children. You will ensure the safety of the participants while providing high-quality program facilitation that includes setting up and taking down programs. Our Program Instructors will demonstrate leadership and a positive approach while facilitating class-based programs.




Position Responsibilities




Current CUPE Job Classification:


Facilitates the delivery of a program; supervises and cares for the safety of infants and children; plans organizes and hosts children's birthday parties


Primary Focus: Our Program Instructors will demonstrate leadership and a positive approach to educational-based learning on a daily basis. Successful candidates will help to expose children to a variety of activities including cooking, hands-on activities, art and more. They must be flexible and available to work during the day, evenings and potentially weekends and have prior experience planning programs for school-aged children.



Qualifications




The successful candidate must be 18 years of age and possess the following:

Enrolled or completed post secondary education in Education, Early Childhood Education, Recreation Studies or a related field. Standard First Aid, CPR level C and AED training required prior to hire date. Intervention Check and Police Record Check (completed within 1 month of employment). At least one year of previous experience leading children's recreation and sport programming, or relevant training. A clear understanding of 'child-centered programming' and an ability to supervise and manage the safety of 30 children with the assistance of a team member. Confidence to make on-the-spot decisions, adapting quickly to group dynamics. Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and written with supervisors, co-workers, children and parents. Ability to present yourself in a positive and professional manner. Must be fun and energetic with an aptitude for working with children. Comfortable leading a variety of activities such as drama, arts, movement, sports and swimming. Experience in leadership, team building, mentoring youth and program planning is considered an asset.



Hours




The standard workweek consists of an average of 35 hours, with the specific schedule being determined by the immediate supervisor.

Compensation




Starting salary $21.74 per hour as per the CUPE Collective Agreement.
