Job Description


The Operations Program Delivery and Partnerships (OPDP) team coordinates a number of programs that support environmental awareness, beautification and parkland operations. These positions will assist the Program Leads in planning, recruiting, training and supervising volunteers/staff for various OPDP programs (Pop Up Gardens, Partners in Parks, Front Yards in Bloom, Boulevard Gardening, City Farms, Bloomin\xe2\x80\x99 Boulevards, etc.).

These positions will coordinate program opportunities across the OPDP team to achieve similar processes and procedures. The successful candidates will also be responsible for researching and delivering content for educational programs, growing partnerships with stakeholders, websites, social media and promotional material.

  • Assist the Program Leads with planning, program coordination, volunteer management, program evaluation and event coordination for community programs
  • Implement programs and initiatives based on work plans
  • Coordinate the procurement of supplies and monitor the program budget
  • Prepare and distribute marketing and communications resources according to the Communications and Engagement Plan
  • Support the development and delivery of information-sharing and educational opportunities, including presentations, workshops and training
  • Communicate and liaise with key stakeholders
  • Research and develop content for educational programs, websites, newsletters, social media and promotional materials
  • Respond to customer and stakeholder inquiries
  • Create and interpret maps using Google Maps and other geospatial programs and applications
  • Support the celebration of beautification and gardening efforts in the city
  • Supervise seasonal staff, delegate work and monitor task completion
  • Provide input on program development, strategic planning and policy development as needed
  • Complete hazard assessments, perform inspections and site visits and other safety related tasks to allow programs to meet provincial OHS standards. Assist in developing, updating, and maintaining safety training materials for programs and support the delivery of safety and program-related training
  • Manage databases and analyze key performance indicators
  • Provide status reports on program deliverables and activities
  • Other duties as required
Qualifications
  • Degree or diploma in environmental sciences/studies, forestry, agriculture, horticulture, botany, biological sciences, recreation, education, leisure, physical education, business, or a related field
  • Minimum of 1 year experience in Program Delivery
  • Minimum of 1 year in a supervisory role, including coaching, scheduling, recruitment and training of staff
  • Valid First Aid and CPR Level C required
  • Considerable experience and knowledge of the delivery of programming
  • Ability to provide leadership to staff and volunteers
  • Ability to effectively communicate with stakeholders, supervisors, co-workers and the public
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to work independently effectively with little or no supervision
  • Must have the ability to work a variety of shifts which may include evenings and weekends
  • Ability to deal effectively with potentially stressful situations
  • Ability to work both in an office and outdoor environment in variable working conditions
  • Excellent communication and customer services skills, both written and verbal
  • Excellent organizational skills to track and record program data information
  • Experience using mapping software, particularly ArcGIS is an asset
  • Hire is dependent on Police Information Check satisfactory to the City of Edmonton and there may be a cost associated with this requirement
  • Valid Alberta Class 5 driver\'s licence (or provincial equivalent). Obtaining and maintaining a City Driver\'s permit is a requirement of this position
  • Must arrange own transportation to be reimbursed in accordance with City of Edmonton policy which may require business auto insurance

Up to 4 temporary full-time positions for up to 11 months

Hours of Work: 40 hours per week. Shifts are variable throughout the week, including regular weekend, afternoon and evening work depending on operational requirements.

The weekly hours of work for this position are currently under review and may change at a future time. Any changes will be made in accordance with the City of Edmonton/Civic Service Union 52 collective agreement and the incumbent will be notified in advance.

Salary Range: $26.580 - $33.357 (Hourly)
