Children First Society is seeking a passionate, experienced and highly organized Program Coordinator to lead the day to day operations of our licensed early childhood education programs. This leadership role is central to ensuring the delivery of high quality, inclusive and culturally responsive care and education for children from infancy through school age children.
The Program Coordinator will be responsible for overseeing curriculum development, staff supervision, regulatory compliance and fostering strong relationships with families and the broader community. The ideal candidate is a dynamic leader with a deep understanding of early childhood development, a commitment to child safety and well being and a collaborative approach to team management.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Program Leadership and Curriculum Development
Design, implement and evaluate developmentally appropriate curriculum and programming aligned with current best practices in early childhood education.
Ensure daily activities are engaging, inclusive, culturally relevant and tailored to the developmental needs of each age group.
Support the integration of Indigenous knowledge, language and traditions into programming where appropriate.
Monitor and assess program effectiveness, adjusting as needed to meet learning outcomes and child development goals.
2. Staff Supervision and Professional Development
Assist in the recruitment, onboarding and training of early childhood educators and support staff(approximately 30 team members).
Provide ongoing mentorship, coaching and performance evaluations to ensure a high standard of care and professionalism.
Foster a positive, respectful and collaborative team culture that encourages continuous learning and growth.
Coordinate and participate in regular staff meetings, workshops and professional development initiatives.
3. Health, Safety and Regulatory Compliance
Ensure full compliance with territorial licensing regulations, health and safety standards and organizational policies.
Conduct regular inspections, safety drills and risk assessments to maintain a secure and hygienic environment.
Promote and model best practices in food safety, allergy awareness, emergency preparedness and child supervision.
4. Family and Community Engagement
Build strong, trusting relationships with parents and caregivers through regular communication, meetings and progress updates.
Serve as a liaison between the childcare centre and community organizations, schools and service providers.
Represent the organization at community events and contribute to outreach and advocacy efforts that support early childhood development.
5. Administrative and Operational Oversight
Maintain accurate records related to attendance, incidents, child development and staff documentation.
Manage classroom budgets, supplies and resources efficiently and transparently.
Oversee enrollment processes, maintain waiting lists and support families through transitions and intake procedures.
Prepare reports for the Executive Director and Board as required.
Qualifications and Requirements:
Diploma or Degree in Early Childhood Education (or willingness to obtain within a specified timeframe).
Minimum of 3 years of progressive experience in a licensed childcare setting, including supervisory or leadership roles.
In depth knowledge of early childhood development theories, inclusive practices and trauma informed care.
Strong leadership, communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to motivate and support a diverse team.
Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with families, staff and community stakeholders.
Current First Aid and CPR certification.
Clear Police Record Check and Vulnerable Sector Screening (mandatory).
