About Our Community:



The Lheidli T'enneh (historically known as the Fort George Indian Band) is a community that is built on and around the strength of its people. T'enneh means "The People". They are a sub-group of the "Dakelh" people whose traditional territory includes the city of Prince George, British Columbia. The name "Lheidli" means "The People from the Confluence of the River" in the Carrier language, referring to how the Nechako River enters the Fraser River at Prince George. The rivers spoken of are the Nee Incha Koh which means "river with strong undercurrents" and the Ltha Koh, the Big Mouth River.

The Program Coordinator plays a vital role in fostering an inclusive daycare environment that reflects the mission, vision, and values of Lheidli Littles' Lodge. Grounded in a commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion, this role supports daily childcare operations, ensures programming aligns with licensing requirements, and provides on-the-floor leadership to educators, volunteers, and practicum students.

By embracing and honoring Indigenous knowledge, traditions, and perspectives, the Program Coordinator helps create a supportive, culturally respectful space for children, families, and the community. This position combines administrative coordination with hands-on mentorship, ensuring both high-quality programming and healthy team dynamics. The Program Coordinator reports directly to the General Manager.

Key Tasks & Responsibilities:



Provide leadership and support on the floor to ensure daily programming, staff ratios, and licensing requirements are consistently met.

Actively mentor, coach, and support staff, volunteers, and practicum students in alignment with a child-centered, culturally respectful, and trauma-informed philosophy.

Support orientation, training, and ongoing professional development of staff, fostering curiosity, reflective practice, and continuous learning.

Model inclusive, relationship-based practices with children, families, and staff that prioritize safety, trust, empowerment, and collaboration.

Inspire educators to use a reflective mindset in their practice (e.g., "What might this behavior mean?" or "What opportunities for learning can we create here?"), modeling responsive, strengths-based pedagogy.

Ensure the physical and emotional safety of children while supporting their developmental needs and honoring each child's unique strengths.

Support positive guidance and behavior strategies that uphold dignity, respect, and empowerment for children.

Review incident and critical incident reports, providing feedback and coaching to help staff interpret children's behaviors through trauma-informed and developmental lenses.

Assist with staff scheduling and liaise between programs to ensure adequate coverage and smooth operations across the centre.

Build and maintain respectful, trusting relationships with families and community partners, recognizing them as integral to children's development.

Provide safe, supportive opportunities for children, youth, and families to share their goals, feelings, and needs, and connect them with appropriate resources or referrals.

Support with administrative duties, including accurate registration, intake of clients, and diligent program data collection, case notes, and documentation to drive outcomes and meet contractual requirements.

Ensure compliance with licensing regulations, accreditation standards, and health and safety protocols.

Promote a culture of engagement, high performance, accountability, and continuous improvement by modeling the Lodge's values and behaviors.

Lead floor-level team meetings, contribute subject matter expertise, and communicate program updates effectively.

Actively contribute to healthy team dynamics while fostering collaboration and integrated service delivery.

Engage in program promotion, community building, and partnership development as needed.

Work collaboratively with internal and external stakeholders to enhance service quality and continuity.

Perform other duties as required to support program excellence and organizational goals.

Knowledge & Skills Expectations



Diploma or degree in

Early Childhood Education, Human Services, or Education

with at least

3 years' experience

working with children, youth, and families in licensed childcare or related settings.

Must be a

Registered Early Childhood Educator (ECE)

in BC;

Infant Toddler (IT)

certification is considered an asset.

Strong knowledge of

child development

, early learning frameworks, and

trauma-informed practice.



Proven ability to

mentor, coach, and guide staff, volunteers, and practicum students,

with skill in real-time feedback and reflective supervision.

Excellent

communication skills

(verbal, written, computer literacy, and active listening).

Strong

relationship-building abilities,

with cultural competency and sensitivity to the unique experiences of Indigenous communities and diverse populations.

Solid understanding of

Food Safe Certification (or willingness to obtain).

Possession of a valid Class 5 Driver's License.

Possession of a valid First Aid and CPR certification.

Up-to-date

immunizations

as required by childcare licensing regulations.

Must be willing to undergo a criminal record and vulnerable sector check.

Working Conditions:



Work Environment: Classroom setting, including activities indoors and outdoors, as well as close interactions with children.
