POSTING DETAILS POSITION: Program Asst - Second Language Job type: Temporary, Full time POSTING DEADLINE: April 7, 2023 Langley School District #35 invites the applications for Program Assistant, Second Language. Preference will be given to candidates who can speak a second language such as Mandarin or Cantonese Reporting to the Director-International Student Program, performs a variety of administrative duties in the International Students Program. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Performs a variety of administrative duties to support the operational needs of the
Department.
  • Liaises with students, parents, homestays, school contacts, agents and other
clients regarding ISP programs and services.
  • Assists with Homestay Program, Summer Programs and other areas as required.
  • Assists with processing of student applications, homestay applications, visa renewals, medical insurance, payments, etc.
  • Greets, screens, receives visitors to ISP reception counter.
  • Provides translations as necessary.
  • Assists with troubleshooting student and homestay issues.
  • Maintains accurate records on a database and generates reports using computer software.
  • Prepares information packages and couriers materials as required.
  • Files and maintains a variety of reports.
  • Maintains departmental records and files.
  • Performs other assigned comparable duties that are within the scope of knowledge, skills and abilities required by this class specification.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE :
  • Completion of Grade 12 including/supplemented by typing (60 wpm) and
additional post-secondary education in office procedures.
  • Two years of related experience.
  • Ability to communicate effectively using tact and discretion in the explanation and clarification of information.
  • Ability to speak a Second Language such as Mandarin or Cantonese.
  • Ability to determine, judge and select appropriate course of action within limits
of established methods and procedures.
  • Excellent organizational, analytical and multi-tasking skills.
  • Ability to work with interruptions and to meet deadlines.
  • Excellent written and verbal skills and have the ability to compose execute letters, memoranda and reports.
  • Detailed knowledge of computers (e.g.: MS Office-Word, Excel, Power Point, Microsoft Access).
  • Physical ability to perform required duties.
This is a temporary, full-time position working 35 hours/week. The rate of pay is $26.99/hour, plus a comprehensive benefits package.
