As a Program Assistant with VCH you will:

  • Answer telephone inquiries, take messages or direct callers to the appropriate person.
  • Greet and check in clients and confirm client appointments.
  • Word process a variety of material such as correspondence and progress reports utilizing word processing or spreadsheet software.
  • Enter client information into database, and scores client questionnaires according to established procedures.
  • Transcribe administrative and clinical correspondence, and collate statistical information.
  • Maintain client charts as per established procedures.
  • Sort and distributes incoming and outgoing mail.
  • Engages in on-going team planning and quality improvement activities.
About the Geriatric Assessment Clinic (GAC):

This position supports the Geriatric Assessment Clinic (GAC), located at West Vancouver Community Health Centre. GAC provides short-term health assessment and treatment for older adults with who can no longer safely function in their day-today life. Clients may have gone through recent physical, social or mental changes that threaten their health and independence. The Program Assistant supports the Geriatricians and primary duties include processing referrals, contacting clients/families to schedule appointments and respond to general inquiries, creating client charts, and processing physician consults.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Education & Experience
  • Grade 12, plus two (2) years' recent related experience, or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
Knowledge & Abilities
  • Knowledge of general office procedures.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to work independently and in cooperation with others.
  • Ability to type 50 wpm.
  • Ability to operate related equipment.
  • Ability to deal effectively with others.
  • Ability to compose business correspondence.
  • Ability to organize and prioritize workload.
  • Basic computer literacy to operate computerized client care information system and word processing, spreadsheet, database, Internet and e-mail software.
  • Physical ability to perform the duties of the position.
The hours of work including days off and work area may be subject to change consistent with operational requirements and the provision of the Collective Agreement and applicable statutes. Successful applicants may be required to complete a Criminal Records Review Check.

As per the current Public Health Orders (Long Term Care/Seniors Assisted Living Provincial Health Officer Order and the Health Sector Order), as of October 26, 2021, all employees working for Vancouver Coastal Health must be fully vaccinated for COVID-19. Proof of vaccination status will be required.
