JOB SUMMARY



This job is for use in the Business Support Services (BSS) Branch. The Business Support Services (BSS) Branch is responsible for providing business support through a centralized branch that consolidates and streamlines the delivery of specialized business supports and services to an assigned department, and standardizes where feasible. The dual mandate of the BSS is to provide key business knowledge and capacity to support policy, project management and a number of administrative functions to General Managers and operational Services and Branches within the Department, and to support the City as a whole by working collectively and collaboratively to enhance operations and support corporate-wide initiatives.

You are responsible for: coordinating, overseeing and implementing various programs, projects and initiatives related to a broad range of services provided by the Business Support Services Branch in support of corporate and departmental operations; building and maintaining collaborative relationships on behalf of the BSS Branch with key stakeholders, partners, and resources in the organization; ensuring tracking and monitoring of assigned programs, projects and initiatives; providing project management services for projects assigned to the BSS Branch, in accordance with the City's project management policy and corporate project management frameworks; and leading small-scale branch or departmental projects.

The Business Support Services (BSS) Branch provides a centralized support function to the Public Works Department. The Project Management Office oversees the departmental strategic plan to prioritize and achieve both departmental and corporate objectives.

The project management office is responsible for outlining the internal and external landscape and developing processes for senior leadership to make informed and effective strategic goals. The strategic plan informs departmental objectives that are also translated into individual projects.

We are seeking a strategic and innovative thinker. You will need who has strong foundational project management skills and the ability to perform strategic analysis to help informing the right departmental goals that translate into tactical projects goals. This role operates in a highly operational environment, requiring exceptional relationship-building, influence and presentation skills to collaborate effectively with operational and corporate partners.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE



Completion of 3 year university degree, with major focus in the discipline applicable to the business or service delivery area of the position, such as Business Administration, Communications, or a related field.
Minimum of 3 years of experience in coordination, oversight and implementation of business related services and in using project management techniques and methodologies.

KNOWLEDGE


Applicable federal, provincial and municipal legislation related to departmental programs and services General knowledge of the Corporation, departmental business requirements, policies and organizational structure Project Management principles and techniques Planning and performance measurement Policy and procedure documentation practices Customer service delivery methodologies and skills Protocols for developing submissions, briefings, major reports Consultation methods and practices Corporate computer systems and applications Knowledge of applicable health and safety legislation, including the rights and duties of workers.
