Position Description: The Professor, Sustainability is responsible for providing academic leadership and for developing an effective, learning-centered environment for students by supporting the design and delivery of curriculum with Sustainability at George Brown. The professor will teach courses to students in all years at the degree/graduate certificate level and will have the knowledge base required to coordinate the Interdisciplinary Design Strategy Graduate Certificate at the Brookfield Sustainability Institute (BSI), and be able to develop and offer courses in sustainability across the College relevant to students in Architectural Technology, Design, and Fashion areas, when required. The Candidate must have an extensive research portfolio and will be required to lead and participate in applied research projects within the BSI. The candidate will be required to present evidence of scientific publications, and active participation in applied research, and dissemination through publications and conferences. Education / Certification / Designation:
  • A PhD in Architecture, Urban Design, Design Strategy or Engineering with a specialization in either Sustainability, Nature Based Solutions and Circular Economy.

Experience:
  • Five (5) full-time years of recent relevant experience in sustainability projects.
  • A history of scholarship and peer reviewed publications.
  • Prior post-secondary teaching training and experience in adult instructions techniques, and curriculum design experience will be preferred and will be applied in a variety of teaching and learning settings.
Knowledge / Skills Set: A thorough knowledge of current trends in sustainable design practice, with proven ability to teach degree and graduate certificate level students will be required. Academic leadership experience in a post-secondary program is an asset.
  • Must have experience with advanced learning technologies, including online delivery.
  • Involvement in innovation and professional development related to teaching, use of technology, and student success.
  • Ability to convey conceptual and practical aspects of subjects to students respecting their diverse backgrounds, experience and learning needs.
  • Demonstrated commitment to excellence in teaching and life-long learning.
  • Excellent communication, collaboration, teamwork, and interpersonal skills.
  • Demonstrated commitment to uphold the College\xe2\x80\x99s priorities on diversity and equity.
Candidates seeking full-time faculty positions with the College must demonstrate the ability to design, facilitate and assess learning in accordance with adult learning principles and Universal Design for Learning (UDL).
Interview process will consist of a mock teaching experience and, in some cases, a practical skills component.
