The Department of Biology in the School of Science and Technology at CBU invites applications for a tenure-track position in Biology with an emphasis in Plant Biology and Biodiversity at the rank of Assistant Professor. This position will commence on July 1st, 2023 (or as soon as possible thereafter). The successful candidate will deliver undergraduate courses in Plant Biology and Biodiversity as electives within the Bachelor of Science (Biology), and the Bachelor of Arts and Science, and as electives for other departments. Such courses may include Plant Development and Diversity, Plant Taxonomy, Plant Ecology, Edible Plants, and courses related to Biodiversity and Ecosystems. The successful candidate will also conduct discipline-based research in Plant Biology and Biodiversity, or a related field, and undertake appropriate service activities within the university community. The capacity to develop an externally funded research program is also expected. The search committee seeks candidates who demonstrate flexibility and range in their secondary areas of teaching and are committed to innovative forms of pedagogy, including online delivery. For instance, experience in or the capability of developing and teaching undergraduate courses in such areas as quantitative biological research, monitoring biodiversity, sustainability, plant-insect relationships, insect biology and systematics is also sought. Research and teaching pursuits within the broad range of Biology are also of interest to CBU. Candidates should have a PhD in Biology or relevant field. Candidates who are in the later stages of their PhD may be considered with the successful completion of the PhD being a condition of employment. CBU teaches programs on campus, off campus in locations across and outside of Canada, and on-line. The university and its partners will therefore provide opportunities for faculty members to teach in different modes in different locations as part of their regular workload. While these opportunities may not be available equally for all faculty positions in all programs, a clear willingness to teach in different modes and locations will be noted as part of your application.
