Position Description:



The

Professor, School of Early Childhood

is responsible for providing academic leadership and for developing an effective, learning-centered environment for students through the design and delivery of curriculum within the School of Early Childhood at George Brown. The professor will teach courses to students in all years at the degree/diploma level, in the Early Childhood programs in addition to other degrees, diplomas and certificate level courses when required.


Education / Certification / Designation:





Must have an undergraduate degree with a specialization in Early Childhood; certificate in Advance Special Needs/Resource Consultant. A Masters credential required in the following areas: Disability Studies, Special Education. A PhD in Critical Disabilities studies or related is preferred. Member in good standing with The College of Early Childhood Educators.

Experience:





Five (5) full-time years of recent clinical or industry relevant experience in Early Childhood. Demonstrated work experience in the role of a Resource Consultant in the early year's sector working as a member of a transdisciplinary team providing direct support to young children with additional learning needs within an inclusive environment. Demonstrated first-hand experience administering screening and assessment tool; designing and implementing Individual Support/Educational Plan, and providing support to children, families and educators. Knowledge and experience with the ABA, Critical Disability theory and the Social model of inclusion are preferred. A history of scholarship and peer reviewed publications will be an asset. Prior post-secondary teaching training and experience in adult instructions techniques, and curriculum design experience will be preferred and will be applied in a variety of teaching and learning settings.

Knowledge / Skills Set:





A thorough knowledge of current trends in Early Childhood practice, with proven ability to teach the entry-level practitioner in the classroom and lab setting will be required. Academic leadership experience in a post-secondary program is an asset. Must have experience with advanced learning technologies, including online delivery. Involvement in innovation and professional development related to teaching, use of technology, and student success. Ability to convey conceptual and practical aspects of subjects to students respecting their diverse backgrounds, experience and learning needs. Demonstrated commitment to excellence in teaching and life-long learning. Excellent communication, collaboration, teamwork, and interpersonal skills. Demonstrated commitment to uphold the College's priorities on diversity and equity.

Candidates seeking full-time faculty positions with the College must demonstrate the ability to design, facilitate and assess learning in accordance with adult learning principles and Universal Design for Learning (UDL).


Interview process will consist of a mock teaching experience and, in some cases, a practical skills component.
