Today, the Schools of Community Services, Interdisciplinary Studies and Public Safety offer several certifications, diploma, advanced diploma, and graduate certificate programs. Within this context of inspiring innovation and excellence, the School of Public Safety is currently seeking a full-time Professor to teach and coordinate the Pre-Service Firefighter one-year certificate program starting August 2025.

Duties and Responsibilities
• Establish the academic goals, curriculum and plans for the Pre-Service Firefighter Program and contribute to the overall academic institutional plans and strategies
• Utilize creative teaching and assessment approaches to enhance student progress based on adult learning principles
• Engage in a variety of activities that support teaching and learning and promote student success, including curriculum development, lesson planning, assessing student progress and achievement, and class management
• Establish an effective learning environment and work as a collaborative team member contributing to the overall direction of the program and school
• Play an active role in student advising and student recruitment, and assist with the promotion and marketing of our program across the province
• Opportunity to participate on college and school committees to advance the College's strategic priorities
• Coordinate with community partners to ensure access and training is acquired for students as required
• Engage and coordinate with Ministry, OFM and other delegates as required
• Maintain equipment and lab facilities - track inventory, order equipment, obtain quotes following college procurement policies and procedures, and ensure accurate and safe maintenance of equipment as required by legal and college policies
Qualifications

Required: • Certificate, diploma or degree in Fire Science or equivalent
• Must possess NFPA 1001 Standard for Firefighter Professional Qualification Firefighter Level 1 & Firefighter Level 2 Certification and NFPA 1041 Fire Service Instructor Level I Standard. • Seven years of experience as a career firefighter.
• Ability to relate and communicate positively, effectively, and professionally with others and function effectively within a team environment.
• Ability to provide leadership and mentorship and be an effective role model in the classroom.
• Ability to utilize creative teaching approaches and current and emerging teaching and learning strategies to enhance student success.
• Demonstrated ability to use a variety of educational technologies, including in-class media presentation systems, learning management systems, and other relevant classroom technologies.
• Ability to work with students from diverse backgrounds.
• Solid commitment to students and education.
• Excellent written communication skills and exceptional interpersonal skills.
• Strong computer literacy and effective critical thinking and organizational skills.
Assets
• Bachelor of Education Degree
• Previous teaching experience at the post-secondary level
