Effective Date: 2 weeks prior to Winter Semester 2024

This position will be assigned a winter/summer rotation but teaching assignments may be changed by the Dean/Associate Dean and occur in any of the three semesters.

We are seeking a full-time Professor for the Mechanical Technician - Precision Skills program. As a faculty member at Georgian College you will have the opportunity to apply your passion for teaching and share your rich industry experience by creating a supportive and effective learning environment which allows students to achieve their full academic potential. Duties include but are not limited to:

  • Developing and delivering a wide variety of mechanical manufacturing and related courses in our Mechanical Technician - Precision Skills program
  • Evaluating student progress / achievement
  • Maintaining subject expertise through professional development, contact with industry, other educational institutions and/or professional bodies
  • Creating and maintaining a positive learning environment
  • Incorporating a variety of learning / teaching strategies and technologies to meet student needs
  • Participating in portfolio / academic / campus and college-wide activities as required
  • Participating in course / curriculum revision, program revision and renewal activities
  • Developing alternative delivery strategies, and online course development and teaching, as required
  • Detailed descriptions of responsibilities, are defined in the classification definition of professor in the Academic Collective Agreement
QUALIFICATIONS:

Required:
  • A minimum of a 2 year post secondary diploma in precision machining/manufacturing, and a Certificate of Apprenticeship (C of A) and a Certificate of Qualification (C of Q) in a related mechanical trade.
  • Minimum of nine years combined experience in teaching and/or industrial training, applying a skillset in the manufacturing sector with preference to machining and CAD/CAM. (Computer Aided Design and Computer Aided Manufacturing).
  • Strong hands-on experience working with manufacturing equipment: conventional and CNC Mills, Wire EDM, Laser Cutters, Lathes and Grinders, Wire EDM, 3D scanning, and additive manufacturing (3D printing).
  • Previous demonstrated industry and/or teaching experience focusing on at least three of the following subject areas: Conventional and CNC Machining, Wire EDM, Additive Manufacturing, CAD/CAM, Laser Scanning and Metrology at a postsecondary level and/or adult training experience
  • Demonstrated mastery of curriculum development, universal design for learning, optimising delivery strategies, adult learning methodologies, academic advising, and student success strategies
  • Ability to effectively integrate new technology into teaching and learning
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal and problem-solving skills
  • Proven ability to contribute to, and work in, a positive team environment and to foster the same in their students
  • Commitment to life-long learning
  • Demonstrated ability to work with diverse student populations
  • Computer literacy: Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, AutoCAD and Mastercam
  • Demonstrated experience in Additive Manufacturing and 3D Laser Scanning for Quality Assurance
  • Teaching and Training Adults certification and/or equivalent certifications.
Additional Asset / Preferred:
  • Additional experiences and/or learning focusing on advanced manufacturing processes.
  • Experience with online course development and / or online teaching related to mechanical manufacturing discipline
  • Computer literacy: Learning Management System / Web Delivery Software (i.e. Blackboard) and Student Information Systems
  • The ability to teach in more than one related program area.
