Position Summary




INRS is a university-level research and graduate training establishment. Ranked first in Canada for research intensity (grant total per professor), INRS brings together 170 professors and about 800 students and postdoctoral fellows in four centres located in Quebec City, Montreal, Varennes and Laval.


INRS Eau Terre Environnement Research Centre (ETE) is situated in the heart of Quebec City, with major research facilities located in the Quebec Metro High-Tech Park. The Centre brings together a total of 37 faculty members, 100 research and research support staff, 33 administrative employees and 220 graduate students. Total operating revenues, including institutional and external revenues, amount to approximately $18 million per year.


The Centre invites applications for a position of Professor in water treatment. This position is a continuation of the Centre's longstanding contribution and recognized expertise in the field of water sciences, and more specifically in treatment and decontamination processes. Safeguarding the resource is dependent on effective and innovative treatment methods and technologies, responding to emerging issues while ensuring equitable and quality access to populations. This position is perfectly in line with the objectives of the scientific program of the Eau Terre Environnement Research Centre and INRS.


Main Roles and Responsibilities




More specifically, you will assume the following tasks and responsibilities:


Propose applied and fundamental research in water, wastewater and industrial effluent treatment to meet emerging needs in this field. Develop, in line with the Centre's scientific priorities, a multidisciplinary research program focusing on: The use of chemical or electrochemical processes; The improvement of such processes and their performance in numerous applications, including the treatment of drinking water and wastewater, the disinfection and deodorization of industrial effluents, the reduction of pollution loads, the elimination of persistent organic compounds, and the extraction and recovery of metals; The development and fine-tuning of innovative processes for new cutting-edge applications. Acquire funding for your research and laboratory activities, and contribute to the Centre's shared infrastructure, through external grants from public and private organizations, or in partnership with industry. Train students and research staff through mentoring and teaching, notably as part of the Centre's graduate programs. Engage in the activities of the Centre and INRS, in particular through participation in scientific activities, internal service and the Professors' Assembly of the Eau Terre Environnement Centre. Contribute to the national and international influence of INRS and to the vitality of the Eau Terre Environnement Centre through scientific programming.

Requirements




Education




PhD in science or water engineering, chemistry, chemical engineering or other related field.

Experience




Have a minimum of five years' experience in research and development in the field and have a very good background in chemistry and electrochemistry applied to the environment (treatment and valorization of industrial effluents and residues, etc.).

Standard Requirements




Scientific production demonstrating autonomy and originality. Ability to work as part of a team and network in an inter- and multidisciplinary perspective, as well as in collaboration with representatives of various organizations for the implementation of new technologies (e.g., technologies for treating wastewater, soil and urban waste, as well as industrial and mining residues); Ability to conduct applied research with industrial partners, or public and parapublic organizations. Demonstrated ability to offer multidisciplinary teaching and mentoring at the graduate level; Entrepreneurial skills and the ability to self-finance research.
The working language is French. Advanced knowledge of English is essential. Candidates with limited knowledge of French are strongly encouraged to apply. The necessary resources will be made available to facilitate the successful candidate's learning.

Additional Information




The salary of a professor at the assistant academic rank ranges from $98,982 to $128,599 annually, depending on experience and qualifications. This position is covered by the collective agreement of the Syndicat des professeur.e.s de l'INRS.
