Job title: Production Supervisor

Your challenge!

Reporting to the Production Manager, the Asset Owner\'s mission is to be responsible for overseeing the daily operations of one or several line(s) including creating and executing daily action plan, developing production operators, and supporting the Process Lead and Maintenance Lead in improvement, and sustainability of Daily Management System (DMS) elements as well as Health & Safety training. You own Daily Rhythm & Schedule (DRS) and Clean Inspect & Lubricate (CIL) processes.

Position overview: Responsible for the performance related to one / several line(s)

  • Creates and executes a daily action plan for the team
  • Develops the skills & autonomy of production operators
  • Supports the other members of the LCT in the implementation and continuous improvement of their respective DMS elements
  • Trains the team on safety topics
  • Support the Production Manager in fulfilling the mandates of the operation to meet overall business objectives
  • Promote and be responsible for applying sound occupational health and safety management and ensure compliance with Cascades safety standards

Key meetings

Daily Rhythm & Schedule (DRS)
  • T0/T1 handover meeting / shift huddle (rotating with the other members of the LCT)
  • T2 LCT meeting
  • T3 Area meeting
Daily Rhythm & Schedule (DRS) responsibilities
  • During shift huddle (T1): Supports the development and execution of the shift action plan
  • During LCT meeting (T2): Leads daily LCT meetings in order to identify priority actions for the next 24 hours, define a daily action plan, and allocate an owner from the LCT to each action
  • During the area meeting (T3): Presents updates on the last 24 hours, the action plan for the next 24 hours, and the support required from the area supervisor
Daily Management Systems (DMS): Clean, inspect, and lubricate (CIL)
  • Defines and implements a standard process to clean, inspect, and lubricate the equipment, shares best practices with the other Asset Owners
  • Ensures the process is executed according to defined standards and continuously improves that process based on lessons learned
  • Trains / coaches the operators on cleaning, inspection, and lubrication activities
Human Resources
  • Employee coaching
  • Provides support for annual employee evaluations
  • Meets weekly with trainers to monitor the progress of newly trained employees
  • Validates training evaluations (task training)
Safety
  • Performs safety and leadership audits
  • Manages at risk employees
  • Defines an order and cleanliness action plan
  • Participates in investigations
  • Performs departmental audits
Operation
  • Supports operations
  • Plans machine cleaning stops
  • Validates performance over the last 24 hours and adds comments in the reports and dashboards
  • Communicates the daily action plan
  • Validates time losses and defines an action plan
  • Manages Daily Rhythm Schedule for many T level meetings
  • Document press/ corrugator operations procedures, standards and product specifications; implement quality controls and monitor press performance parameters
  • Recommend and expedite system solutions, troubleshooting and modifications to existing equipment to improve and optimize press operations
  • Optimize production planning, manage work interruptions, implement systems and work methods to consistently meet deadlines, cost and quality initiatives
Quality
  • Validates the quality tests from the last 24 hours (daily) and follows up with employees regarding corrective actions
Other
  • Covers the watch period during the week according to the schedule: answers calls related to operational problems, lack of raw materials, labor shortages, and electrical/mechanical maintenance issues
  • Take initiative to focus on continuous improvement for personal development regarding updates on industry standards
  • Any other duties requested by your supervisor
Experiences and strengths
  • 3-5 years of prior continuous improvement or supervisory experience in a manufacturing facility
  • Supervisory experience in paper converting or corrugate converting
  • Bachelor\'s degree in Operations Management, Engineering, or relevant field
  • Have a Lean certification
  • Have implemented or participated in the implementation of change management
  • Have a good understanding of recognized process management, continuous improvement methods and problem-solving tools
  • Strong people management skills are a must
  • Must be proficient at mentoring and coaching employees for success.
  • Strong communication skills (both oral and written)
  • Results-oriented and the ability to motivate a team to perform at high levels
  • Experience in troubleshooting and process improvement
  • Ability to make good decisions with an innovative approach
  • Ability to acquire applicable converting/technical/machine knowledge
  • Ability to train and transfer knowledge effectively
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office suite
  • Experience with SAP
