The Ministry of the Solicitor General, Ontario Provincial Police, and the Fleet, Supply & Weapons Services Bureau is seeking a qualified individual to join our Print Services Unit.

The Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) is one of North America\'s largest deployed police services with more than 5,800 uniformed officers, 2,400 civilian employees and 830 Auxiliary officers. We provide essential services that ensure the safety and security of the people of the Province of Ontario. Fleet, Supply and Weapons Services Bureau (FSWSB), through a commitment to customer service, ensures that the OPP is equipped to meet its public safety mandate in an increasingly complex and challenging policing environment. The Bureau is comprised of highly skilled personnel from diverse backgrounds that work cooperatively with customers and stakeholders to research, develop and deliver equipment to position the OPP as a leader in modern policing.
FSWSB is committed to working with clients to deliver services and equipment to meet the diverse needs of the OPP. Key to this effectiveness is the engagement of OPP members and the OPPA through the Fleet Committee and Clothing and Equipment Committee to provide valued input. The Bureau continues to maintain many other effective partnerships both internal and external to the OPP including acting as the Co-Chair of the Police Cooperative Purchasing Group. What can I expect to do in this role?
To provide a full range of pre-production, production and post-production printing services.
How do I qualify?
Mandatory
Ability to pass an OPP background security investigation.
Ability to lift 30 lbs.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Knowledge of and ability to operate computerized high speed industrial printing and copying equipment including printing equipment capabilities, e.g. print size and weight, imaging, effect of background colour, enlarging and reducing, to meet printing requirements, arranging for servicing as required.
Knowledge of and ability to operate various pieces of equipment used for operations such as collator, heavy-duty stapler, paper guillotine, trimmers, laminators, glue applications and binding equipment to produce printed material in various formats. Knowledge of and ability to operate shrink wrapping and other packaging equipment to properly and securely package printed materials for shipping/delivery.
Knowledge of Procedures related to the Workplace Hazardous Materials Information System (WHMIS) for the safe handling, storage and distribution of toners and other chemicals used in the Print Shop.
Knowledge of Graphic design concepts, usability, accessibility design and of word processing and graphics applications.
Skill in the use of computer applications including Microsoft office products: Word, Power Point, Excel, Access, and Outlook and desktop publishing and graphic design software: Adobe Illustrator, Acrobat and Photoshop, In-Design, Fiery print server, and others to receive, retrieve and manipulate documents to be reproduced electronically.
Skill in the calibration of colour scales, operating a digital and photo imagery system and maintaining an electronic database of documents and images; working knowledge of offset print, multiple colour print processes and digital print processes.
Oral communication and interpersonal skills to liaise with other staff and clients regarding materials to be produced and the format required; to discuss production issues and suggest solutions and cost effective alternatives to requests for printing services.
Ability to determine the best process and solution for individual printing requests, i.e. ensures toner and paper compatibility for satisfactory imaging; selects the most appropriate equipment to provide cost effective solutions to a variety of printing and copying requests; reviews requested format to ensure it falls within the prescribed formats.
Skilled in making recommendations for reordering based on established inventory levels.
