The Role
As a Production Manager you will plan, organize and supervise production and maintenance activities according to established standards (productivity, costs, safety and product quality) to minimize stoppages, foster continuous improvement and meet production deadlines.
Main Responsibilities
1. Plan, organize and oversee production and maintenance according to established standards (productivity, costs, safety and product quality) to minimize downtime and meet production deadlines
Analyze the production schedule and determine the best strategy for production according to information received from the Plant Manager and Production Planner and with a focus on continuous improvement
Coordinate the Maintenance team to ensure all equipment is operating at optimum capacity
Provide a leadership role in improving production and maintenance processes by using Lean principals
Hold daily ROQ meetings with each production and maintenance shift to ensure effective communication with the team
Direct the production and maintenance team in the execution and changes in the production schedule in order to meet production deadlines
Monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) and adherence to departmental SOPs
Communicate any issues to Plant Manager and submit the necessary recommendations
Ensure effective communication between work teams and other services for any situation the applicant (or lack of product quality, supply problems, mechanical equipment, etc.)
2. Supervise employees - Production and Maintenance Teams
Determine the departmental labour needs, and ensure the necessary monitoring and follow-up
Interview, select and onboard new employees in partnership with the Human Resources Department
Ensure all required GMP and departmental training is completed and that employees are mentored as needed
Evaluate and ensure employee skills development
Conduct disciplinary meetings in partnership with the HR Department and the Union
Resolve day to day union questions, concerns and disputes
Ensure the implementation of company policies and procedures regarding attendance, overtime, absences, discipline, etc.
3. Ensuring compliance with Health and Safety policies and procedures, good manufacturing practices (GMP) and HACCP
Promote and comply with health, safety and environmental standards including ergonomics, safe operating procedures, good housekeeping practices, WHMIS, and the observance of PPE requirements at all times
Build a safety culture and uphold company values
Ensure a safe and clean working environment in the production department
Ensure that employees work safely, respect the established dress code and mandatory protective equipment
Draft reports of workplace accidents and lead departmental investigations as needed
4. Perform administrative tasks required and all other related tasks such as maintaining departmental KPIs, completing production forms, reviewing and approving departmental hours and attendance, etc
Qualifications/Skills/Abilities
BA in business administration or manufacturing or a college diploma in operations management and production
Minimum of five (5) years experience in a supervisor position
Knowledge of Union Management regulations and procedures
Experience in food processing, manufacturing, sanitation and food safety standards (HACCP, GFSI)
Excellent coaching and mentoring abilities
Excellent communication skills
Knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook)
Knowledge of health and safety standards

Pay: $90,000.00-$110,000.00 per year
