The Product Manager is responsible for managing the development, execution, and lifecycle of Bailey's Specialty Products portfolio. This role involves close collaboration with cross-functional teams--including Marketing, Sales, R&D, Operations, Quality, Finance, Project Management, and Supply Chain--to ensure product strategies align with business objectives and support revenue growth. The Product Manager serves as the primary resource for product-related inquiries and provides technical and commercial expertise to the sales team to facilitate effective product positioning.



The role encompasses product development, planning, and execution, including gathering and prioritizing customer and product requirements, defining the product vision, and ensuring alignment with market demands. The Product Manager is responsible for maintaining accessible technical data for key industry stakeholders such as architects, contractors, engineers, and building owners. Additionally, the position requires evaluating customer service requests, assessing product modifications, and ensuring that product offerings support Bailey's overall strategy and business goals.



This role requires strong analytical, communication, and project management skills to oversee the full product lifecycle and ensure successful market adoption. The Product Manager must be able to work in a dynamic environment, coordinate cross-functional efforts, and drive continuous improvement to enhance product competitiveness and customer satisfaction.


Duties and Responsibilities





The responsibilities and accountabilities of the position include but are not limited to the following:


Financial:




Review financial information to determine opportunities to improve long term value creation, improve margins and develop pricing plan. Understand competitive market pricing in all regions, keep a record and document. Work with Finance, Operations and Steel Purchasing to find and develop methods to reduce product costs.

Product Development & Training:



Assess market competition to identify new product opportunities and enhance product portfolio. Become the product knowledge expert for the product lines and ensure product training delivery to the sales team. Ensure all Sales Representatives have baseline knowledge of all products. Ensure that the Sales team is kept up to date on new developments regarding Bailey and competitor products. Ensure that product quality standards are set, and standard operating procedures are in place. Define product specifications nationally and for each region. Define and create a competitive product testing program, document and evaluate the results. Work with customers to identify new product opportunities and/or needs. Work with appropriate Bailey resources to develop new products.

Sales & Marketing:




Work with Regional Sales Managers to set regional volume goals & devise a plan to ensure goals are met. Determine product market distribution strategy through market analysis. Develop a national distribution strategy that identifies customers, pricing, products and region. Determine products positioning versus competition. Develop sales call cycles with industry architectural decision makers including engineers and builders. Work with Marketing and regional stakeholders to determine packaging requirements (materials, quantities, formats, branding) and ensure standard packaging requirements are met across all regions. Ensure the creation, maintenance and deletion of product part numbers in SAP. Work with the Marketing Department to provide insight and develop strategy to promote and launch new products (i.e. displays, website, brochures and social media). Provide insight and recommendations on the way information is delivered to customers and how Bailey Metal presents its products to the public. Monitor and ensure product literature is up to date. Respond to requests for information about Bailey's standard and proprietary products. Provide technical information and product knowledge to all levels of contractors and end users on all Bailey product lines. Act as a resource for incoming Customer Service calls and requests for product related information including, information binders and samples. Follow up with customers who have requested information or purchased Bailey's products. Develop FAQ's and responses based off on incoming customer queries. Analyze and optimize sourcing of existing and new products, including make or buy decisions.

Product Portfolio Management:



Track performance. Recommend changes to the tactical plan and challenges and initiate activity to maximize sales and boost profitability. Develop strategic & annual plans, ensuring a link with the overall business objectives. Work with Regional Sales Managers and Finance to lead the development of the operating plan for the product line on an annual basis, including market growth rates and new product sales budgets. Define & establish the product standards/specifications aligned to market requirements. Facilitate annual review process and make decisions on product line rationalization (SKU rationalization). Direct all escalated product management maintenance issues working closely with sales, customer service, operations, technical services, supply chain, purchasing and finance to achieve monthly and annual corporate goals

Requirements




3 to 5 years of experience within the Building Materials industry (knowledge of Bailey's standard and proprietary products would be considered an asset) Diploma or degree in marketing, business, engineering, or related field. Valid "G" level driver's license with clean drivers abstract. Proficient with Microsoft Office applications including Outlook, PowerPoint, Word and Excel.
