The Opportunity
  • The Product Development Engineering Intern reports directly to the VP of Product Development and will help develop new high-precision solar simulator products.
  • This role is a 4-8 month internship (based on availability of the successful candidate) and is contingent upon successful Canada Summer Jobs funding.
  • You will get a chance to gain real world experience in developing software used by leading researchers and engineers around the globe.
  • As part of the work term, there will be an opportunity to interview senior executives on the goals and business of the company, if desired.

Primary Responsibilities
  • Perform as an integral member of the Product Development team while using and expanding your existing
  • Programming & scripting to solve a variety of problems (Python, C)
  • Directed optical & electronic experiments and data collection
  • Hands-on work as needed (soldering, assembly, etc.)
  • Characterization and testing of prototypes to validate performance and discover improvements
  • Documentation/Data Input/BOM/Process Writing
  • Mechanical design & CAD (e.g., Solidworks, Inventor, Eagle) where applicable
  • Communicating with other G2V employees on a regular basis to gather their requirements and needs
  • Gather, synthesize and present information in a coherent manner
  • Simultaneously working on a large volume of short-term projects
  • Other duties as assigned

Target Skills & Qualifications The successful candidate will have:
  • General training in one of the following: Programming (Python/C/Embedded systems/GUI), Electronics, or Optics/Physics is required
  • Proficiency in Office Suite software required
  • Interest in developing new hardware products that have a beneficial impact

Additional Skills (not required, but nice to have)
  • Hands-on experience in performing similar tasks strongly preferred
  • Highly detail-oriented and able to adapt to rapidly changing work priorities
  • Experience with Raspberry Pi or Arduino is an asset
  • Experience with version control, document control, and data manipulation an asset
  • Experience with web development or wiki design an asset
  • Experience with python GUI development and coding strongly preferred
  • Experience with soldering strongly preferred
  • Experience with PCB debugging an asset
  • Experience with CAD software and 3D printing an asset
  • Experience with ERP systems an asset
