We are looking for a

Product Design Engineer

who is passionate about mechanical design, thermodynamics, and solving real-world engineering challenges. This role is ideal for someone who enjoys hands-on product development and wants to contribute to a niche yet globally respected marine brand.

Position Summary



The

Product Design Engineer

is responsible for applying engineering principles to design, improve, and support Dickinson Marine's product line. This includes developing new products and features, enhancing existing designs, and supporting both internal teams and customers with technical expertise.

This role manages full project lifecycle--from concept development to production implementation--and plays a key part in sustaining engineering, continuous improvement, and product reliability.

Key Responsibilities



Product Development & Design



Design new products, parts, and features from initial concept through to production release. Redesign and enhance existing products for improved performance, manufacturability, safety, quality, and cost efficiency. Create detailed 2D drawings for manufacturing (parts, assemblies, weldments, etc.). Perform engineering calculations and analyses, including thermodynamic and structural evaluations. Develop and document design, drafting standards, and engineering processes.

Technical Problem Solving



Analyze product performance issues, conduct root cause investigations, and implement corrective actions. Lead or participate in creative design sessions to solve mechanical, thermodynamic, or materials-related challenges. Develop test procedures and verification plans to validate product designs.

Production Support



Maintain production-level documentation with a high standard of accuracy and detail. Generate manufacturing instructions, assembly procedures, and work instructions. Collaborate closely with fabrication, assembly, and procurement teams to support smooth production launches.

Customer & Field Support



Provide technical support to customers, dealers, and installers regarding product use, troubleshooting, and specifications. Contribute to help manuals, installation guides, technical documentation, and product demonstration videos.

Specific Knowledge, Skills or Abilities:



Required



Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field. Strong understanding of thermodynamics, heat transfer, and combustion principles. 5+ years of experience in product design engineering or mechanical systems design. Experience generating detailed manufacturing drawings. Hands-on aptitude and ability to prototype, test, and iterate designs. Strong problem-solving skills and ability to manage multiple projects concurrently. Strong communicator (written and verbal) and the ability to work effectively with individuals of all levels, culture, background, and experience Proven success collaborating across engineering, production, and customer-facing groups. Ability to translate customer needs and field feedback into practical engineering solutions. Detail-oriented with strong organizational and documentation abilities. Creative thinker with a passion for continuous improvement and hands-on engineering.

Preferred



Experience designing stoves, heaters, combustion systems, or thermo-mechanical products. Proficiency in Solidworks Background in marine engineering, marine equipment design, or understanding of boat systems/mechanics. Knowledge of stainless steel fabrication, sheet metal design, and mechanical assemblies. Familiarity with small-batch manufacturing environments

Compensation and Benefits



We are committed to transparency in our hiring process. The expected salary range for this role is between $80,000 to $100,000 depending on various factors including experience, skills, training and certifications, market demands, and organizational needs. We also offer competitive group medical benefits plan, RRSP plan, and paid time off.
