PRODUCT DESIGN ENGINEER (Automotive Electronics)
JOB SUMMARY
Responsible for the design of mechanical components/products built for new products as well as improve costs and performance of existing products. The incumbent will be accountable for complete and accurate design of products including interpretations of drawings, sketches, notes and engineering specifications.

EDUCATION
Diploma or Degree in Mechanical Engineering or Electronics Engineering
SKILLS & EXPERIENCE REQUIRED
2+ years' work experience designing plastic injection molded components and assemblies
Extensive experience in 3D parametric modeling, including surfacing using NX and/or CATIA
Extensive experience in drafting
CAE and Light simulation experience is an asset.
Experience in parts design and metal stamping
GD&T and stack up calculation experience required.
Experience in delivering math data and drawings to OEM automotive customers (e.g. Team Center Applications specific to OEM's)
Experienced working with MS Office, NX and/or CATIA, PLM software
RESPONSIBILITIES
To meet the demand and future growth of new products and processes, the incumbent must possess excellent organizational skills and keen with attention to details of design procedures for efficiency and overall plant profitability.
Coordinate the design activities and design reviews by following the Engineering procedures.
Participate in problem solving activities using a defined problem solving methodology, including customer specific methods and documents (Eg. 8D, 7 Step, 5 Phase, etc.)
Preparation of the DMFEA (Design Failure Mode and Effects Analysis).
Practice and actively promote Design for Manufacturability.
Tolerance stack ups and engineering calculations of parts going together.
Maintain a thorough understanding of manufacturing standard practices as it pertains to the design of products and manufacturing equipment within the automotive industry.
Analyze, develop and recommend design approaches necessary to meet production.
Practice and actively promote CAE Simulation, including Lighting simulation as required.
Review drawings and supporting documentation to ensure compliance with Company design, Standards, and Customer Specifications.
Build initial product samples. Actively support pre-production and early launch builds by providing hands-on technical assistance.
Analyze, review and negotiate drawings changes as required to increase reliability and design robustness.
Write engineering change records and revise changes on computer software.
Other job related duties as required.
