BIOVECTRA Inc. is a leading bio-science business in Prince Edward Island and Nova Scotia, focused on contract manufacturing and product development of active pharmaceutical ingredients, pharmaceutical intermediates, and bioreagents.

BIOVECTRA Inc. has an opening for a Process Development Senior Scientist Biologics. This is a full-time permanent position located in Charlottetown, PEI.

The candidate will be responsible for:

  • Purifying proteins and other biomolecules through process development chromatography.
  • Developing methods and transferring of known processes from clients for recombinant proteins or small molecule purification using chromatography techniques such as affinity, ion exchange, and size exclusion chromatography.
  • Operating and maintaining AKTA systems for protein purification, ensuring optimal performance and efficiency.
  • Designing experimental approaches, process characterization, scale up and technology transfer to GMP manufacturing.
  • Carrying out literature searches as appropriate to currently known methods, designing new approaches as required, and preparing research plans.
  • Communication to stakeholders throughout projects, including client presentations and written reports of experimental results.
  • Managing Tech transfer from laboratory scale to production scale.
  • Interpreting associated analytical results and knowledge and use of current techniques to characterize the quality of the resulting product.
  • Providing guidance and oversight to a team of employees. Responsible for basic Human Resources services for the team including payroll, review, and approval of vacation requests, providing employee feedback and evaluation where needed.
  • Assisting the departmental manager, ensuring the workplace is clean and equipment is well maintained.
  • Training and supervising research assistants or summer students if needed.
  • Additional duties assigned, based on business needs and the department supervisor\xe2\x80\x99s request.
The successful candidate for this position should have:
  • Bachelor of Science in Chemistry, Biochemistry, Biotechnology, or related field.
  • Master or Ph.D. in Chemistry, Biochemistry, Biotechnology, or related discipline is preferred.
  • At least five years of experience in protein purification and chromatography, preferably in a biopharmaceutical or related industry.
  • Extensive hands-on experience with AKTA systems and chromatography techniques.
  • Experience in microbial fermentation is considered an asset.
  • Experience in bio-statistical methods such as DoE, evaluation of significance & variability, process modeling and use of bio-stats software such as Design Expert or JMP would be a considerable asset.
Entry: $75,000 salary based on experience.
