JOB SUMMARY:
As the administrative and educational leader of the school, the principal will ensure the overall health, wellbeing and safety of all students, staff, property, and materials. The principal shall conduct themselves in a professional manner. The principal must liaison with parents, elders, and other community members. The principal's successful performance in this position requires the ability to work in a team environment, valuing and motivating staff and students to give their best efforts for the good of the school.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Perform all duties in accordance with the Tsuut'ina Nation Administration Policies and Procedures.
Lead all student assemblies and chair bi-weekly staff meetings. Attend managers' meetings and other school administrative meetings as required.
Develop, revise, and maintain student and staff handbooks, as well as necessary forms, contracts, and agreements.
Prepare and implement the school timetable, and calendar, and ensure they are accessible to students, staff, and supervisory officers.
Assign classes and subjects to teachers, ensuring all instruction complies with provincial and Tsuut'ina Nation education guidelines. Coordinate class coverage in cases of teacher or support staff absences.
Conduct ongoing evaluations of teachers and support staff throughout the school year. Provide written evaluation reports to the Education Director and complete post-conference meetings with staff by April 30th annually.
Address and mediate all staff-related concerns and issues.
Oversee and attend all school functions.
Support the integration and promotion of Tsuut'ina language and culture in the curriculum.
Monitor, and maintain accurate, up-to-date financial records and support budget preparation in collaboration with administrative staff.
Oversee preparations for the opening and closing of the school year.
Distribute lesson plans and emergency response information.
Communicate fan-out messages and implement crisis response procedures as needed.
Ensure that all supervision duties are adequately assigned and covered.
Prepare and submit monthly school and staff progress reports to the Director of Education.
Ensure effective planning and coordination of staff orientation and student return at the beginning of each school year.
REQUIREMENTS:
Desired Education and Experience:
o Bachelor of Education Degree (B.Ed.)
o Master of Education (M.Ed.) preferred.
o Alberta Leadership Quality Standard certification is an asset.
o Related leadership experience in the areas of curriculum and assessment.
o School administration experience is an asset.
o Experience in First Nation school system is an asset.

General Employment Requirements:
o Valid Alberta Permanent Professional Teaching Certificate
o Current Criminal Record Check, Vulnerable Sector Check and Child Welfare Intervention Check.
o Oath of Confidentiality.
o Valid Driver's License, and reliable transportation.
