As a Principal with Doane Grant Thornton key accountabilities include:
Service Delivery:
Main point of contact and interacting with stakeholders on file engagements (creditors, debtors, lawyers, lenders, etc.) for creditors and legal inquiries
Viability and Financial Reviews: Reviewing and analyzing financial information, financial projections, and business plans
Building and maintaining client relationships with banks, lawyers, and other clientele
Preparing, editing, and proofing key correspondence, client and court reports, and letters to stakeholders
Insolvency proceedings: Filing various official documents with the Court and the Office of the Superintendent of Bankruptcy and ensuring all deadlines are met
Hands-on role on file engagements including communicating with stakeholders, attending to file issues on an as needed basis and developing resolutions
Tracking project progress, milestones, and deadlines, reviewing invoices, preparing payments and handling trust account duties; preparing summary of receipts and disbursements for trust accounts
Reviewing proofs of claims for compliance with requirements pursuant to the Bankruptcy and Insolvency Act and entering into software
Coordinating and attending external/internal meetings and events
Ad Hoc projects based on skills including taking possession, accounting analysis, summarizing financial information, etc.
Business Development:
Champion the growth, management and development of the
Restructuring
practice in the region that complements, and is supported by, the firm's overall strategy for growth
Mentor, coach and develop the next generation of leaders
Actively participate in business development efforts, including working collaboratively with senior leadership, partners, and marketing professionals to target and build relationships with client prospects.
Improving on the operational results of the Restructuring practice by developing and maintaining productive relationships with clients from a variety of discipline
Contribute to new business development by identifying broader needs of our existing clients, and prospective clients through cross-collaboration and interaction with other Doane Grant Thornton service lines
Make a meaningful impact with clients and colleagues across Canada, collaborating across service lines, sub-service lines, sectors, and geography to provide a menu of options aimed at optimizing the entirety of a client's business value
Lead and provide solutions to assist clients in identifying matters, as well as guiding and advising through growth in current business and financial conditions
Key Requirements:
Education:
Completion of a Bachelor's or advanced level degree (Masters) or professional accounting designation (CPA)
Completion of a Chartered Insolvency and Restructuring Professional (CIRP) Qualification Program and a Licensed Insolvency Trustee (LIT)
Experience and Attributes:
10+ years of advisory experience in a Canadian professional services firm, leading and conducting complex corporate restructuring and insolvency proceedings
Insolvency Expertise: Possess comprehensive knowledge of all insolvency proceedings.
Financial Acumen: Understands key performance indicators and financial reporting.
Proficiency in File Acquisition/File Administration and File Closure
Demonstrated experience growing a practice and business development which focuses on development of relationships and actively anticipating client and market needs
Nurture alumni connections: Strengthen your professional network by maintaining relationships with alumni.
Actively participate in professional, industry or community organizations events
Expand brand reach: Develop connections with bankers, lawyers, trustees, credit counsellors, and other potential referral sources to promote firm
Ethical Compliance: Uphold the firm's ethical standards and code of conduct for Trustees.
Strong management and leadership skills with the ability to be an active participant in the development of the team and the broader Advisory practice
Develop solutions with clients and co-workers through collaborative effort and discussion
Commitment to quality, excellence, and continual professional growth for yourself and for those you lead
Excellent written, and verbal communication skills, including exceptional interpersonal skills to earn the trust and confidence of clients and colleagues at all levels and influence decision-makers
