About the role

We are looking for a Principal Advisor, Project Controls responsible for the development of project cost estimates, integrated project schedules and the regular reporting of project cost and schedule performance through all project stages in conformance with Rio Tinto guidance notes and project procedures.

The incumbent will work Monday to Thursday at the Diavik site and will be based out of Yellowknife. Occasional travel for business is expected. The role reports to the Projects Manager, and you will:
  • Ensure project controls requirements are embedded in commercial documents and oversee contractors\xe2\x80\x99 performance to these requirements.
  • Develop project controls guidance notes, procedures, tools, templates, and best practices to implement projects.
  • Develop and promote the project control systems within area of accountability.
  • Identify and implement improvement opportunities for streamlining project controls work process.
  • Lead the development of project control accounts and budget.
  • Lead the setup and issuance of reports, including estimating, planning and cost control curves.
  • Lead the development of contingency and change management procedure.
  • Lead the implementation of effective contingency and change management process.
  • Lead the setup and implementation of project progress measurement practices.
  • Lead the development of Final Forecast Cost (FFC) and proactive identification of risks and mitigation.
  • Apply discipline governance and quality assurance across capital projects.
  • Manage the relationship with project controls stakeholders within the project and within the business.
  • Analyze and report progress to plan to contribute to strategic and operational decisions.
  • Provide technical support to project stakeholders.
  • Develop and contribute to the project controls guidance and protocols.
  • Provide assistance to estimating and scenario evaluation for closure activities and planning.
About you

To be successfully considered for this role, you will have:
  • College diploma or university degree in a related discipline.
  • At least 8 years of experience in an industrial construction project setting; five or more years of experience in an industrial construction setting is preferred.
  • Mining industry or Heavy Earthworks experience is an asset.
  • Strong working knowledge of Enterprise Asset Management systems (JD Edwards, SAP)
  • Strong working knowledge of Project Control Systems (PRISM, Primavera)
  • Knowledge of, planning, forecasting, cost control and reporting.
  • In-depth knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles.
  • Proven ability to research, compare and analyze voluminous and complex management and financial information.
  • Strong planning, organizational and communications skills.
  • Excellent knowledge of MS Office tools.
  • Project accounting and tracking of completion metrics through a WBS structure accounting system.
  • Ability to maintain standards of conduct and possess, cultural awareness and sensitivity.
  • Demonstrate a dedication to the company and the position.
  • Demonstrate sound work ethics and be committed to safety.
  • Display maturity, be self-motivated, disciplined and understand the necessity for confidentiality in all business and personal matters.
