The Opportunity
We are looking for
Licensed Practical Nurses (LPNs)
to join our
Primary Care Team
at CUPS. We are currently recruiting for multiple positions.
As a Primary Care LPN at CUPS, you will be responsible for providing trauma-informed nursing care to clients who are potentially experiencing the adverse effects of poverty, trauma and chronic illness. In your role, you will work to the full scope of your LPN practice and assess, plan, implement, evaluate and document all nursing care of patients in accordance with policies and professional nursing standards. You will play a primary role in supporting an integrated and holistic and client centred approach to patient care, health promotion and maintenance.
CUPS LPNs support the creation of safe and trauma informed health environment for clients and their families. You will provide quality patient care while promoting the shared mission, vision and values of CUPS.

Key Responsibilities
Deliver health care within CUPS Primary Care clinic
Perform delegated independent nursing functions including phlebotomy, within the scope of practice as determined by CLPNA and CUPS within individual LPN competence level.
Provide client centred support to clients who use substances, including those seeking education on safe use practices, harm reduction, withdrawal management, stabilization and/or sobriety.
Provide on-going health care in an interdisciplinary team setting to clients with a variety of acute and chronic illnesses/diseases such as mental health and substance use, communicable diseases, and/or general health issues.
Use harm reduction, culturally aware, and trauma-informed principles to conduct physical and mental health assessments, identify challenges, and address issues with the plan of care in collaboration with the interdisciplinary team and any other health care services involved.
Record, report and organize the need for maintenance or repair of equipment including but not limited to ECG machine, Fetal Monitors, O2 tanks, vaccine fridge.
Maintains and ensures best practices around the infection prevention control for the clinic
Be informed of CLS routines and maintain standards and staff training around phlebotomy and lab services.
Maintains and ensures best practices around the handling of vaccines and participates in the maintenance of immunization procedures.
Delivery of Phlebotomy processes.
Support the Tarrant program.
Support vaccine administration.
Participate in continuing education activities and obtain required contact hours.
Ensure compliance with regulatory standards (MSDS, OH & S, WHMIS).
Employment Requirements
Completion of an accredited nursing education program.
Active registration and practice permit with the College of Licensed Practical Nurses of Alberta (CLPNA).
3-5 years of acute-care experience.
Current First Aid & CPR certification.
Phlebotomy certification.
What You Bring
Experience with Telus Collaborative Health Record (CHR) EMR is an asset.
Demonstrated experience working with individuals/communities experiencing homelessness, poverty, addictions and/or mental health concerns.
Demonstration of Trauma Informed Care.
Awareness of community resources.
Computer literacy, including effective working skills of MS Word, Excel and e-mail required.
Able to pursue continuing education opportunities as required for special clinics.
Intermittent physical activity including walking, standing, sitting, lifting, and supporting patients.
Time management skills, multitasking skills, and the ability to prioritize tasks with minimal supervision.
Knowledgeable regarding the nursing process and its application, including the assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of nursing care.
A well-developed sense of diplomacy, including solid negotiation, conflict resolution, and people management skills, including respect and empathy.
High degree of resourcefulness, flexibility, and adaptability.
Knowledge of issues related to socio-environmental determinants of health, in particular issues related to mental health and structural marginalization.
Ability to respectfully collaborate with an interdisciplinary team.
Ability to handle, move and lift heavy or awkward equipment and/or individuals.
Ability to perform all work-related duties in accordance with regulated legislature.
Ability to communicate effectively with clients of various ages, socioeconomic status and ethnic backgrounds.
Proven critical thinking and decision-making skills.
Ability to be self-directed and able to exercise independent nursing judgment.
Working Conditions
May be exposed to infectious waste, diseases, conditions, etc., including exposure infectious diseases.
Manual dexterity required to use desktop computer and peripherals.
