Job Summary:

This position is responsible for the coordination and management of the practicum experiences for the Collaborative BScN and RPN to BScN Advanced Entry Programs. This involves negotiating, securing, and assigning placements for approximately 700 students.

Nature of work:



Reporting to the Associate Dean of Nursing, this position is responsible for the functions of the Nursing Practicum office. Travel required for meetings with partner agencies within the GTA which occur approximately 10-15 times per year

Responsibilities/accountabilities:

Develop and maintain practicum partnerships:

Ensures sufficient and appropriate sites for student clinical experiences that support the outlined requirements of the given course objectives and learning outcomes expected Develops new partnerships with health and social service agencies (e.g. hospitals, public health departments) to support student placement needs Maintains ongoing relationships with existing clinical partners including participating in partner events (i.e. preceptor workshops, staff appreciation) and attending practicum-related provincial or local meetings HSPNet annual meeting, GTA consortium)

2. Securing and Assigning students to placement:

Ensures the correct quantity and quality of the placements Secures and assigns students to different clinical settings in various clinical specialties to meet degree and professional licensing requirements

3. Information preparation for internal/external clients:

Reviews and updates annual Nursing Program Handbook which contains all information relevant to practicum experiences throughout all years of the program, as well as profession, university and program standards and policies not specifically outlined in the Academic Calendar Disseminates preceptor information that guides/aids the RN mentor that a student is paired with for a practicum experience Develops forms/processes for student placement Communicates and assigns clinical instructors

4. Ensure student safety and compliance:

Validates and tracks student completion of pre-practicum requirements using Synergy including requirements outlined by the Public Health Act and individual agencies as needed Ensures necessary forms are completed by students to confirm WSIB coverage when required Completes and maintains, in conjunction with the Risk Manager and Associate Dean Nursing, formal affiliation agreements between Ontario Tech and all partnering agencies for clinical placements

Organizational and record keeping skills Database skills an asset Networking and negotiation skills Ability to communicate effectively and professionally with a wide variety of individuals both internal and external to the Faculty and University Ability to work both independently and collaboratively Problem-solving skills; using effective and creative strategies; flexibility and adaptability to deal with multiple priorities in a diverse setting Strong written and verbal communication skills; proficient in MS-Word, MS-Outlook, MS-Excel, MS- Publisher and social media platforms. A willingness and the ability to learn other computer software packages as required

Required Education:



Completion of a formal post-secondary/college/university program of three academic years Nursing discipline is an asset An equivalent combination of education and related experience may be considered Verification of Academic credentials may be required

Required Experience:



Minimum 3 to 5 years of experience in an academic environment
