Join our growing team as a Practicing Acoustical Engineer, providing consulting services in noise, vibration, and acoustics on projects across Canada, the United States, and abroad. You'll work with teammates to service clients across a broad range of market categories including commercial, residential, industrial, academic, civic/institutional, scientific/healthcare, transportation, defense/security, and various others. The projects you'll be a part of will also be varied, including assessment and control of noise and vibration within and between sensitive spaces in a variety of building settings and from transportation sources and industrial facilities, architectural acoustics, vibration isolation of buildings/structures, and more. You'll be joining a team of 40 professionals who collaborate enthusiastically with our clients to apply an unmatched depth of knowledge, experience, and innovation to address the most complex challenges across the full spectrum of noise, vibration, and acoustics.
Your key functions & responsibilities
Collaborate with and learn from our experienced team to coordinate and execute projects efficiently, developing optimal solutions for our client's unique projects/challenges
With guidance and support from senior staff and assistance from your teammates, you'll:
Respond to client inquiries and prepare proposals
Conduct field inspections and measurements of noise/vibration/acoustics using state-of-the-art instrumentation and techniques while monitoring and ensuring the quality of field measurement and data collection activities
Review project-related technical documents and drawings
Analyze data using commercial software packages and in-house tools, applying both an objective and inquisitive approach
Develop/evaluate solutions and alternatives with client input
Prepare technical reports and present to clients as needed
Manage all aspects of your projects to meet client expectations and deadlines, working independently with minimal supervision, but with access to the support and resources you need
Conduct thorough reviews of project components to maintain high standards
Assist in maintaining positive client relationships by providing regular updates and addressing inquiries
Establish one or more areas of technical focus, including authoring and/or presenting articles and technical papers for relevant publications and conferences
Grow your skills and know-how over time toward developing areas of technical and market sector thought leadership
Act as an ambassador of HGC to clients, regulators, and other collaborators
Provide support to our engineering and administrative teams as needed

Able to perform work with a high level of professionalism, flexibility, judgment, and diplomacy

Basic understanding of project management principles
Proficiency with acoustical measurement equipment, software for acoustical modelling/simulation software and computer assisted design, and Microsoft Office
Comfortable reading and interpreting technical drawings and specifications
Ability to create clear and detailed technical reports, with guidance
Customer service-oriented with the ability to build and maintain positive client relationships
Knowledge of acoustical engineering principles, theories, and practices
Possess a valid driver's license and have access to a personal vehicle for travel to client sites
Able to work outdoors in various weather conditions and locations, and comfortable working at heights and in confined spaces, as may be required (for which training will be provided as appropriate/required)
Your education & career experience
An undergraduate degree in engineering, physics, acoustics, or a related field of study is required
A minimum of 3 years of direct/related experience is required, 4+ is preferred
Registered with Professional Engineers Ontario as a P.Eng. or have a comparable certification
Experience working in a dynamic consulting environment and/or in any of the architecture, engineering, and construction industries is preferred
