Engineers and Geoscientists British Columbia is currently searching for a Practice Advisor (Climate Strategy) to join our team in Burnaby! The Practice Advisor (Climate Strategy) is responsible for providing leadership, interpretation, subject matter expertise, and guidance to Engineers and Geoscientists BC, registrants, government, members of the public, and a wide range of partners on matters related to climate change adaptation and mitigation and sustainability as it relates to the practice of professional engineering and professional geoscience in British Columbia.   • Developing, implementing, and managing various programs and initiatives that help to address sustainability and climate change adaptation and mitigation in the practice of professional engineering and professional geoscience.
  • Manage the development of professional practice guidelines and other contract deliverables related to climate change and sustainability, including the oversight of associated budgets.
  • Proactively seek out, form, and develop relationships, partnerships, and agreements with other industry associations, Indigenous Nations, NGOs, technical societies, and government on professional practice initiatives related to climate change and sustainability for the engineering and geoscience professions in BC.
  • Making decisions/recommendations in liaising with other regulators, as required, and providing staff support on matters of practice overlap in relation to climate change adaptation and mitigation.
  • Helping build EGBC\'s capacity to support professional engineers and professional geoscientists in relation to integrating climate change and sustainability strategies into professional practice.
  • Building and maintaining relationships within the different industries of practice, to support the evolution of industries and areas of practice contributing to climate action and sustainability.
  • Providing recommendations on strategic direction for EGBC as it relates to the development of an organizational strategy for climate action.
  • Other duties as assigned by management.

WHAT YOU BRING TO THE TABLE

The successful applicant will possess the following:
  • Bachelor\'s degree in Engineering, Geoscience, or similar. Registration as a Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) or Professional Geoscientist (P.Geo.) with EGBC is required.
  • Experience working in the field of climate change: climate policy/ climate change strategy development, adaptation and decarbonization planning, implementation, and sustainability reporting.
  • Understanding of climate models, future projections, and regulatory requirements.
  • Experience with program development, project management, and developing processes for performance measurement and evaluation.
  • 6+ years of industry experience (private or public) in the field of engineering or geoscience.
  • Knowledge and experience as a practicing professional engineer or professional geoscientist sufficient to provide accurate and credible advice to others.
  • Ability to see the big picture, effectively communicate utilizing diplomacy and tactfulness with a wide range of audiences (i.e., public, registrants, Directors, CEOs of companies etc.).
  • Detailed involvement in technical or scientific writing and/or editing.
  • Ability to identify concerns, develop engagement strategies, and effectively facilitate small, medium, and large meetings and engagement sessions.
  • Experience working in the natural resources sector or with the provincial government, municipal government, or another approving authority is an asset.
