Salary: $5,039.20 - $5,663.20 Bi-Weekly

Reporting to the Supervisor, Operations, this position is responsible for the construction, operation and maintenance of the distribution system, equipment and company facilities in accordance with company standards, policies and procedures, the Electrical Protection Act and other regulatory requirements. This position is also key in the delivery of superior customer services and maintaining positive customer relations and will be expected to actively participate in setting and achieving personal and district goals.

What You Get to Do:

  • Constructs, operates, inspects and maintains overhead power lines, substation and related apparatus
  • Works on energized electrical circuits, including live line processes necessary to perform work
  • Performs system switching, ensuring adherence to EOS and necessary clearances/permits are obtained
  • Assists in the supervision of contracted labor (construction crews, hydrovac etc.)
  • Carries out maintenance and planned programs and system inspections in accordance with yearly plan and ensures proper documentation
  • Assists in commissioning new construction for compliance and operating needs
  • Identifies and evaluates operating problems and assists in determining long term/short term solutions. This includes the diagnosing of faults for cause
  • Performs standby duties, including emergency response
  • Maintains knowledge of various systems (ATCO-CIS, MS Word, Excel and Outlook)
  • Adheres to applicable safety and environmental standards, & regulations
  • Identifies and corrects unsafe working conditions
  • Operates and maintains company vehicles and equipment
  • Participates in safety meetings, helping to identify and resolve issues in a constructive manner
  • Provides daily work plans and competes job safety analysis
  • Exercises good environmental practices
  • Assists in incident investigations (public and internal) as required
  • Establishes personal developmental objectives
  • Undertakes a temporary assignment to a higher classification or position if requested
  • May lead, coach and mentor apprentices and co-workers, as is required
Qualifications:
  • High school Diploma required
  • A valid Alberta Journeyperson Powerline Technician Certificate and/or Interprovincial Red Seal certificate required
  • Minimum 3 years\xe2\x80\x99 experience as a Journeyperson Power Lineman
  • Valid Class 5 vehicle operator\xe2\x80\x99s license; willingness and ability to obtain Class 1 Operator\xe2\x80\x99s license
  • Valid First Aid certification required
  • Valid WHMIS Certificate preferred
  • Distribution operations, construction and maintenance knowledge and skills
  • Safe work and job planning skills and strong initiative to successfully complete personal and team projects
  • Previous experience operating a Digger is an asset
  • Previous standby and troubleshooting experience is an asset
  • Experience in Microsoft Office (Outlook, Excel and Word) is an asset
  • Analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Excellent customer relations skills
  • Effective coaching skills
  • Excellent interpersonal, team participation, and communication (written and verbal) skills
  • Excellent organization and planning skills
  • Self-starter with the ability to work independently and with minimal supervision
The successful candidate will be expected to reside in the location\xe2\x80\x99s designated area and provide after-hours coverage. (Please refer to Policy G80 for full details). This position may require the candidate to work away from home base.

Watson Lake is a designated community and a comprehensive northern benefit package will be provided, including;
  • An additional 5% of base salary (northern allowance)
  • An additional $600 a month (northern allowance)
  • An additional $4000 annually (location allowance)
  • Additional 5 days\xe2\x80\x99 vacation for North of 60 positions
  • Rent free company housing with subsidized heating (waste heat from the plant) \xe2\x80\x93 taxable benefit
