Power Line Technician Co Op

Job Description

Canadian Niagara Power Inc. (CNPI), located in beautiful Fort Erie, is looking for a Power Line Winter Co-op to perform any work required to construct, repair or maintain distribution, sub transmission and any future transmission lines. In addition, the candidate will be responsible to complete patrols and inspections as required, emergency repairs, and attend to unplanned outages. This role reports to our Lines Supervisor.

Key functions of this role:



Work safely, as set out by IHSA and company standards Assist with the construction and maintenance of lines and equipment Set foundations for pad mounted equipment and install transformers and switching devices Be familiar in the operation of bucket trucks, radial boom derricks, tensioning machines for stringing operations, underground fault locating equipment, cable tracing equipment, hydraulic equipment and all other tools used in line maintenance and construction. Be able to climb wood poles and structures to be able to access to distribution systems and equipment for the purposes of construction, maintenance, replacement, and switching. Utilize measurement devices and carry out test procedures as required to test for potential, current, insulation value, and fault location as required. Be familiar and participate as exposure guidelines allow in live line work practices and techniques that may include live line tool and rubber glove work methods. Understand and be familiar with isolation, and grounding and bonding techniques. Willing to be trained to operate equipment specific to District and technique Must understand and comply with Ontario Traffic Manual, Field Book 7, IHSA, OHSA, Reg. 22/04, and other policies and procedures Other duties as required

What makes you a successful candidate?



Must be enrolled in an accredited post-secondary PLT Co-op program Must have a valid Ontario class AZ or DZ driver's license with an excellent driving record Must be able to perform the essential duties in all weather conditions Must have excellent working knowledge of all applicable Provincial Safety Regulations, Provincial Environmental Regulations, Electrical and Utility safety rules and safe work guidelines Ability to read and interpret documentation pertinent to the work (i.e. instructions, prints, drawings, sketches, operating diagrams, work protection documents etc.) Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite Effective communication and report writing skills Establish and maintain a positive professional relationship with internal/external customers and industry partners Current certification in First Aid, CPR and WHMIS
