About the Position
Lethbridge Polytechnic is seeking an experienced individual for the position of Power Engineer/Building Automation. This role is integral in ensuring a safe, efficient, and well-maintained environment for students and employees. The main responsibilities are to ensure proper maintenance of all building HVAC equipment and systems including but not limited to boilers, air handling units, pumps etc. They will also operate and maintain the building automation controls system and implement new installation upgrades to the Controls systems including running control wiring, adding controllers, actuators, thermostats and programming of the field devices and servers.
Position Details
1. Heating plant daily inspections. This includes water test and chemical additions to the boiler systems and closed loops. Inspection and adjustment to other related mechanical equipment. Record all pertinent and lawful information in the appropriate areas. Respond to heating, ventilation, air conditioning calls. Analyze and develop a plan of action to resolve the problem.
2. Operation of the Building Automation Controls systems on the Campus. Monitor equipment, temperature, airflows, fans pumps, VFD's, actuators etc. Diagnose controls problems and adjust field components and/or software changes to rectify the issues. Operate the BMS controls station. Do daily checks, identify any abnormal situations with the systems for equipment and make modifications to control the systems. Enter time schedules. Deal with heating, cooling and odor complaints. Participate in design and operation meetings pertaining to the controls systems.
3. Perform scheduled/preventive maintenance on all equipment. Examples: filter changes, belt replacements, VFD change outs, repairing pumps, replacing bearings, servicing boilers during shut down periods such as tube cleaning, refractory repair, checking controls, replacing safety devices and gauges.
4. Assisting other mechanical trades staff and material handling. Responsible to participate in on-call rotation and on-call weekend rotation.
This role involves hands-on work with mechanical systems, requiring physical activity, attention to safety protocols, and occasional exposure to hazardous conditions. Protective equipment such as hard hats, gloves, and safety glasses will be provided.
