The Cumming School of Medicine at the University of Calgary are accepting applications for a Postdoctoral Scholar (PDS).
About the Department:
The PDS will lead patient centered care research focused on the development of advanced care models by including process quality measures, clinical outcome, youth and family perspectives on patient reported outcome measures and innovative education concepts for youth with rheumatic conditions, mental health concerns and/or disabilities. Advanced care models with integrated patient education, patient reported outcomes and impact evaluation is an important component to inform policy and resource allocations and improve delivery of responsive and supportive services across the life-course of children and youth with chronic rheumatic diseases, mental health concerns (and their families) and/or other disabilities. This work will have an important role in supporting patients/families/caregivers, clinicians, and researchers to work together and build capacity to integrate advanced care models, patient education and patient-oriented research (POR) into all health services and supports for children and youth (and their families).
PDS supervision will be provided by Dr. Heinrike Schmeling, Professor and Pediatric Rheumatologist; and Dr. Maria Santana, Associate Professor and Provincial Lead, Patient Engagement ASPORU, Cumming School of Medicine. This scholarship is embedded in a research program with extensive connections to local community partners, national and international research networks.
:
The position requires independent analysis and research, within a team approach in a fast moving and changing environment, often involving multiple stakeholders. The PDS will contribute to refining the research questions and methods and will have the opportunity to lead a multi-pronged program of research to assess use of patient reported outcome measures, patient education concepts and evaluation approaches across sectors for youth with rheumatic diseases, mental health concerns and/or other disability. Clinical trial design will be used to assess interventional education programs. Quantitative analysis will apply statistical and economic approaches to survey data collection and qualitative analysis will draw on perspectives from focus groups and interviews with participants. Research outcomes will inform policy development for health services and evaluation. The PDS will work closely with national and international researchers and with community stakeholders.
