Closing Date: July 13, 2024Position SummaryThe Winer lab at UHN studies how the immune system influences chronic inflammation during insulin resistance and/or aging (see sample lab papers: Tsai et al Cell Metab 2018, 922-34; Ghazarian et al Science Immunol 2017, Apr 21; Winer et al Cell Metab 2016, 413-26; Luck et al Cell Metab 2015, 527-42; Winer et al Nature Med 2011, 610-7; Winer et al Nature Med 2009; 921-9). We also have an interest in mechanoimmunology (Wu et al Nat Commun 2024; Du et al Nat Rev Immunol 2023; Charkraborty et al Cell Rep 2021). We use immunology, molecular biology, including multi-omic assays, mouse models, and tissue culture assays to elucidate mechanisms by which immune cells and immune molecules influence inflammation in tissues.We are looking for an independent and highly motivated recent PhD, MD or MD/PhD graduate with a strong background in immunology to study mechanisms of inflammation with age or in chronic diseases of age, including diabetes, using mouse and cell culture models.DutiesThe selected applicant will have the opportunity to contribute to several projects, including: * The immune system in obesity and insulin resistance

  • The immune system in aging
  • The impact of mechanical forces on immune and other cells
The successful candidate will also receive training and mentorship in key developmental areas. These areas include grant writing, manuscript review, supervision of trainees, conference travel and networking opportunities.Qualifications
  • Highly motivated recent PhD, MD or MD/PhD graduate.
  • Expertise in Immunology is required.
  • Applicants should be ambitious, independent and hard-working.
  • Post doc will be given a high impact project but will also have creative freedom to pursue their own ideas.
  • Expertise with animal models and genetically modified mice is required.
  • Expertise in flow cytometry, cell sorting, immunological assays, immune cell or organoid culture work, Western blotting, and ELISA is highly recommended.
  • Previous work in bioinformatics of RNA sequencing datasets is also especially desirable.
  • Publications in high quality journals required (minimum of 3 publications, at least 1 first author).
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
