The position "Postdoctoral Research Fellow - Wetland & Peatland Restoration" will report to the Industrial Research Chair for Wetland & Peatland Restoration at the NAIT CBR in Peace River. This position will support a wide range of research activities related to wetland science and ecological restoration of peatlands affected by natural disturbances and human activities across the boreal region. The ideal candidate will have strong written/verbal communication skills, experience in experimental design and execution, strength in the analysis of simple to complex data sets, versatility in a working environment that presents a wide variety of technical and operational challenges.




Key Responsibilities:




Conduct applied research including field and lab experimental set up, data collection and analysis and interpretation of research results. Scientific and Technical writing: preparation of reports to government and industry funders, development of scientific manuscripts Research proposal and grant application writing including literature review, hypothesis development, research design and data interpretation. Presentation of scientific findings at workshops and conferences. Lead field campaigns, which involve routine out-of-town travel. Supervise junior assistants and students. Communication with various stakeholders and partners.




Skills & Abilities:




The ideal candidate will have strength in the analysis of simple to complex data sets and versatility in a working environment that presents a wide variety of technical and operational challenges. Experience with field instruments and lab analytical equipment is highly valued. Training and experience with software such as MiniTab, R and ArcGIS. Strong written and verbal communication skills as demonstrated through publication of scientific research. Physically fit to work in a dynamic, diverse, sometimes challenging outdoor/field environment.




Qualifications:




Ph.D. Degree in biology, ecology, or environmental sciences with a focus on wetland/peatland ecology, climate science, ecological restoration and knowledge of greenhouse gas, ecohydrology, biogeochemistry, or remote sensing is preferred. Recent graduate in the last five years. Relevant experience in the design and execution of field and lab research trials (2 years minimum). Minimum three years of Canadian driving experience (driver's license required). Equivalencies may be considered.


The successful candidate must be willing to move to Peace River, Alberta for the duration of this position.




Applicants with education credentials earned outside of Canada should have their credentials evaluated by World Education Services or the International Qualifications Assessment Service (IQAS).


Remuneration

: $71,098.04 - $95,372.94 annually, plus a comprehensive benefits package. (Classification - Research Associate l).


This position is covered by the Alberta Union of Provincial Employees (AUPE) Collective Agreement.
