POST-DOCTORAL FELLOWSHIP AT THE UBC SCHOOL OF NURSING
The School of Nursing at the University of British Columbia, Vancouver campus, invites applications for a part-time (0.75 FTE) position at the rank of Post-Doctoral Fellow. The position is for one year, starting March 20, 2023, with the possibility of extension subject to grant availability and work performance. Salary will be $50,000.00 per year.

A postdoctoral fellow is needed to support qualitative research, community engagement, program evaluation, and knowledge translation for projects promoting health equity for Two-Spirit, transgender, and non-binary youth. The successful candidate, under supervision from Dr. Drew Clark and Dr. Elizabeth Saewyc, will lead the evaluation of a health information campaign project and the drafting of academic papers and knowledge translation materials. The position will also involve community engagement, review of literature, and qualitative data analysis.

The foci of the projects are engaging with knowledge users to identify knowledge gaps, synthesizing and analyzing information on key health topics, and translating health information for various audiences. This position will involve working directly with Two-Spirit, transgender, and nonbinary community partners, with an overall aim of promoting health equity through sharing best practices, Wise practices, and accurate information about gender-affirming healthcare.

Responsibilities will include:

  • Participating in trainings and meetings with the research team.
  • Developing and implementing a project evaluation plan.
  • Creating data collection tools for evaluation activities.
  • Co-leading advisory group meetings.
  • Supporting data collection and analysis.
  • Reporting on evaluation activities.
  • Leading and collaborating on literature reviews.
  • Creating content for educational curricula and other knowledge mobilization materials.
  • Leading and contributing to writing academic articles.
  • Working in cooperation with other members of the research team, community partners, and other collaborators.
  • Communicating verbally and in writing regarding work progress.
  • Performing other duties as required.

Job Qualifications:
  • Completed a PhD within the last 5 years (or shortly expect to complete) in a relevant discipline e.g. education, public health, nursing, communications/media, information science, social work, sociology).
  • Experience conducting program evaluation, literature reviews, and qualitative research.
  • Demonstrated experience working with Two-Spirit, transgender, and non-binary communities.
  • Ability to work with people of diverse backgrounds.
  • Ability to be self-directed, and to work both independently and within a team environment.
  • Ability to exercise confidentiality, tact, and discretion.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Strong writing skills and experience with publishing journal articles.
  • Experience in the following areas preferred: leading program evaluation and creating evaluation tools; working with healthcare and/or social service organizations; experience with knowledge translation and educational resource development; and working with interdisciplinary research teams.
