DUTIES
Thompson Rivers University\xe2\x80\x99s main campus is located in Kamloops, BC. The university is home to 14,000 on campus students, and 11,000 through Open Learning online. Science programming at Thompson Rivers University proudly boasts a long history of graduating students with the knowledge and skills that have allowed them to make the most of their individual abilities and pursue fulfilling career paths and lives. Through the teaching, service, and research of its faculty members, Science connects the university with the local and regional community and thus endeavors to make available relevant practical applications of what students learn in the classroom. At present there is a national emphasis on the development and implementation of programs related to improving the mental health trajectory of public safety personnel (PSP) and mitigating factors that impact mental health and wellbeing. Further, there is a desire to examine immersive learning environments as a potential delivery platform for programming addressing public safety mental health and well-being. Dr. Anderson has developed a very active research program concerning stress and exposures to potentially traumatic events within public safety sectors in collaboration with professional stakeholders and leading experts at the Canadian Institute for Public Safety Research and Treatment (CIPSRT) \xe2\x80\x93 a national network for strategic public safety wellness research and analysis, knowledge translation and mobilization based at the University of Regina. The successful candidate will be responsible for contributing to the expansion and implementation of a research program focusing on mental health and public safety through applied research and training activities, research funding applications, and maintaining or developing relationships with PSP\xe2\x80\x99s research community. The candidate will participate in the oversight of data collection and analysis, presentations at public or specialized knowledge sharing, and the writing of both peer-reviewed and practitioner articles. The candidate will work closely with other collaborators, consultants or other research team members. Incumbents will be expected to spend 80% of their time (4 days per week) associated with the PSP research funded through CIHR and housed at Thompson Rivers University. Compensation for 28 hours a week is $55,000 per annum, plus benefits. This is a term appointment the period of May 1, 2023 to April 30, 2024 (with a possibility of an extension).

QUALIFICATIONS
Academic:
  • a recent PhD (or be All But Dissertation (ABD)) in a relevant disciplines (e.g., psychology, criminology, justice studies, epidemiology, public safety and administration, health law or related field)
Knowledge/Training: Candidates should:
  • have experience within public safety research
  • a strong publication record and interest in mental health research and/or public safety personnel occupational health and safety
  • a keen interest in contributing to mentoring and co-publishing with undergraduate and graduate students (MSc and PhD), and senior academic researchers, while developing research supervision, grant writing, and industry engagement credentials
  • have exceptional knowledge of mixed methods research, and survey design
  • skilled in statistical analysis and modeling, with big data analytics experience an asset; ability to perform both qualitative and quantitative analyses
  • committed to fostering critical and creative scholarship, and the integration of scholarship and teaching
