Research Associate or Postdoctoral Fellow - GSM Project

The Johnson Shoyama Graduate School of Public Policy (JSGS) invites applications for a full-time position at the level of research associate or postdoctoral researcher for the project entitled, Governing Sustainable Municipalities. Knowledge of and interest in one or more of the following policy areas are required: sustainability, environment, energy, municipal governance, labour market, skills training, public policy, social engagement.

The researcher, who will be part of a team, will conduct research to answer four primary questions: * What is the current state of municipal preparedness for sustainability?

  • What are the key facilitators of and barriers to sustainability in the municipal sector?
  • How can municipal sustainability initiatives engage underserved groups, particularly Indigenous peoples, racialized people, 2SLGBTQ+ people, and people with disabilities?
  • What is a strategy to move forward with municipal sustainability in its broadest context?
For appointment as a postdoctoral researcher, the successful candidate will have completed a PhD in a social sciences field, such as public policy or governance, political science, economics, environmental studies, geography, sociology, psychology, anthropology, or a related discipline. For appointment as a research associate, the successful candidate will have completed at least a master\'s degree in one of the identified disciplines.

JSGS is seeking candidates who have an established record of research productivity, independent investigation, innovation, and initiative. Experience with qualitative analysis is a strong asset. Experience engaging with one or more of the following stakeholder groups is a strong asset: governments, Crown corporations, the private sector, the non-profit sector, Indigenous peoples, racialized people, 2SLGBTQ+ people, and people with disabilities.

This term position will begin as soon as possible and end on September 30, 2023, although there is a possibility of extension. The remuneration will be $65,000 annually plus benefits. The research position is funded through a research grant to JSGS from the Future Skills Centre. The successful candidate is expected to be in residence at JSGS, either at the University of Saskatchewan or University of Regina.

About the Johnson Shoyama Graduate School of Public Policy

The Johnson Shoyama Graduate School of Public Policy was established in June 2007 as a collaboration between the University of Regina and the University of Saskatchewan. It is one of Canada\'s leading policy schools for educating graduate students and public servants interested in improving public management and creating public value.
