Job Description


The Department of Community Health and Epidemiology is seeking highly motivated candidates for a Postdoctoral Fellowship. The successful candidate will work with Dr. Alexa Yakubovich and an interdisciplinary team of researchers, advocates, service providers, women with lived experience of violence, and trainees on tricouncil-funded quantitative, qualitative, and mixed-methods research on violence against women (see www.vawresearch.com). This will include the CIHR and Nova Scotia Health funded study, The Interprovincial Violence Against Women (IPV) Project. The IPV Project aims to identify best practices for responding to violence against women, based on the experiences of staff and survivors during and beyond the COVID-19 pandemic, and share that knowledge with service providers, policymakers, funders, and communities.

Under the supervision of Dr. Yakubovich, the Postdoctoral Fellow will take a leadership role in research coordination, qualitative and quantitative data collection, data management and analysis, and the preparation of manuscripts, reports, and presentations as well as grant applications. The successful candidate will be supported in applying for competitive postdoctoral fellowships.

Key responsibilities:

\xc2\xb7 Support and manage research activities, including research ethics applications, data collection and analysis, participant recruitment, and partnership development and engagement.

\xc2\xb7 Analyze quantitative data, including cross-sectional and longitudinal surveys and administrative data.

\xc2\xb7 Analyze qualitative data, including interviews and focus groups, using \'Big Q\' methodologies.

\xc2\xb7 Prepare knowledge translation outputs, including writing academic papers and delivering presentations.

\xc2\xb7 Supervise research staff and trainees contributing to the research project.
\xc2\xb7 Prepare grant and fellowship applications.
Qualifications/Requirements of Position

Required qualifications:

\xc2\xb7 PhD in health or social sciences by the appointment start

\xc2\xb7 Publication record, including as first author, in peer-reviewed journals in the health or social sciences

\xc2\xb7 A demonstrated interest in preventing violence against women, supporting women experiencing violence, or promoting gender and intersectional equity - ideally with academic research experience in these areas

\xc2\xb7 Excellent project management and experience managing staff or students, budgets, and other project resources in an academic research environment

\xc2\xb7 Experience with both qualitative and quantitative data collection

\xc2\xb7 Experience using qualitative (e.g., NVivo or Dedoose) and quantitative analytic software (e.g., Stata or R)

\xc2\xb7 Excellent written and verbal communication, organizational, and time management skills

\xc2\xb7 Able to work autonomously as well as collaboratively as part of a team.

\xc2\xb7 Experience conducting community-based research

Anticipated start date is May 1, 2023 (flexible) for one year with possibility of renewal. Review of applications will begin April 24, 2023, and will continue until the position is filled.
Salary Range/Pay Rate $50,000 - $70,000
