POSITION PURPOSE
Responsible for shore-side ship support of major maintenance and repair. This includes project and contract management of refits, drydocks, and vessel modification projects. Ensures vessel reliability and Class / Regulatory compliance and assists vessel Chief Engineers in ensuring vessel safety and reliability. Plays the lead role in ensuring long term sustainable and reliable operations by managing the vessel modification program and associated budget.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Manages all aspects of vessel drydocks for NFL ships including long range planning, specification development, RFPs and tender evaluations, contract award, project execution and on-site quality control, and budget/contract management.
2. Generates, plans and manages all contractor support work for vessel Spring refits.
3. Supports the vessels in project managing major planned maintenance work.
4. Supports the vessels in project managing significant repairs requiring contractor support
5. Is the primary link with vessel systems/equipment OEMs
6. Is the primary link with Classification societies and tracks/monitors Class/Regulatory compliance.
7. Reviews and approves significant procurement activities by the vessels.
8. Monitors vessel planned maintenance status.
9. Develops and manages long range maintenance plans for the vessels.
10. Manages warehouse inventory.
11. Orders spare parts of a significant nature where requested by the Fleet engineering team
12. Leads the development, execution and budget management of all vessel E2 projects
13. Assists the Terminal Manager and Infrastructure Manager with terminal maintenance and repair projects as required.
KNOWLEDGE AND SKILL REQUIREMENTS
1. Qualifications
Education:
A bachelor's degree in mechanical, electrical or marine engineering or naval architecture; OR
A Transport Canada 1st Class Motor certificate; OR
Demonstrable equivalency to the above in work experience and education.

Experience:
10 years of experience as a technical manager in the marine engineering industry
3.
Skills:
Extensive marine engineering and vessel structures and systems knowledge.
Experience working with Classification societies and marine regulations
Strong leadership and interpersonal, collaboration skills
Experience working with contracts and commercial arrangements
Experience managing budgets and financial accountability
Project Management experience and qualification a strong asset
Ability to stay organized in a fast-paced environment requiring prioritization and adaptation.
Able to work independently with minimal supervision.
WORKING CONDITIONS
Normal office environment but also requires routine visits to vessels in service.
Must hold a drivers license and means of traveling throughout the Maritimes.
This position will be on call to assist the vessel with sudden shipboard technical issues and must be able to routinely work evenings and weekends outside of normal working hours.
The position will be the on-site project, contract and quality manager for drydocks which can be up to 2 months in length and occur almost annually, often away from home port.
Able to access all areas of ships and terminals including climbing ladders and entering tanks.
