Town of Devon Position Description
Title of Position:
Pool Manager
The Pool Manager is responsible for acting as a member of the management team as well as a shift supervisor in the operation and maintenance of the Town of Devon Outdoor Swimming Pool.
This position oversees the overall operations and safety aspects of the Town pool; schedules pool programming and use; hires, manages and supervises shift supervisors as well as lifeguard/instructors; communicates with Finance staff and Recreation Operators; ensures safety requirements are met through inspection of practices and equipment and through training of staff.
Key Responsibilities
Recruitment
Work with Manager of Recreation, Parks, & Culture to determine staffing requirements within approved budget.
Reviews applications received and selects candidates to interview
Coordinates and conducts all interviews and completes hiring of remaining staff
Supervision
+ Coordinates the staff schedule throughout the summer
+ Provides mentorship and supervision to all pool staff
+ Provides sound leadership to all pool staff
+ Conducts mid and final staff evaluation
+ Addresses areas of conflict or concern among pool staff Training
+ Trains all pool staff in the operations of cleaning, mechanical equipment, and water chemistry
+ Prepares and facilitates in-service staff training throughout the summer
+ Reviews the pool handbook annually and revises as necessary
+ Arranges for Health & Safety orientations upon hiring
+ Completes supervisor checklist for all staff
+ Reviews safe work procedures, pre-job hazard assessments, and incident reporting with pool staff
+ Trains staff on proper financial procedures Planning
+ Develops, administers, plans & evaluates all aquatic program delivery
+ Promotion of swimming lessons and special events
+ Makes financial decisions about running lessons based on registrations
+ Completes schedule for the following summer by September Financial Management
+ Oversight of staff hours ensuring they are within the annual budget
+ Develop financial procedures for admissions desk and provide support to staff to administer
+ Oversees all deposits
+ Makes purchases that are within budget
+ Assists the Manager of Recreation, Parks, & Culture in preparing budget for the following season Operations & Maintenance
+ Ensure proper opening and closing procedures are followed
+ Ensure an effective response to maintenance issues that arise throughout the season
+ Work with administration and capital health to ensure proper water chemistry Public Relations
+ Maintain a high quality of behaviour and professionalism when dealing with pool staff, Town employees, swim club members, pool clientele, suppliers, and Alberta Health representatives
+ Respond to customer service requests with professionalism.
Qualifications
Education and Experience:
NL Pool (National Lifeguard Pool) certification
Intermediate First Aid, and CPR level C certification.
Lifesaving Society Swimmer Instructor (SI) & Lifesaving Society Instructor (LSI) certifications.
Swimming Pool Operator 1
Swimming Pool Operator 2 would be considered an asset
Courses such as Lifesaving Society National Lifeguard Instructor (NLI), Lifesaving Society First Aid Instructor (FAI), SwimAbilities Instructor, Lifesaving Sport Coach Level 1, Fitness instruction, Synchronized Swimming and Diving, Lifesaving Society's Competency Level 3 or higher would be an asset.
Cash handling and budget experience.
Conditions of Employment:
At least 2 years of experience in a supervisory guarding or assistant manager position in which you have supervised other staff.
Experience with maintenance and operations of an outdoor pool is also an asset.
