Position Overview:
The Policy Analyst is responsible for researching, analyzing, creating and revising administrative and operational policies and standard operating procedures for the Saint John Police. This is a professional position reporting to the Policy and Risk Manager.
JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Conduct research and analysis of policies and procedures.
Collaborate with other police services across Canada to identify "Best Practices" and their application to the Saint John Police.
Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders.
Draft new policies and standard operating procedures.
Update existing policies and standard operating procedures.
Coordinate the policy and procedure approval process.
Perform other related duties as required.
Essential Qualifications:
Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing, including the preparation of clear, concise and thorough business documents.
Proficient in Microsoft Office, Adobe Acrobat and SharePoint, all of which may be necessary for the creation of business documents and the handling of policy information.
Analyze problems, identify alternative solutions, project consequences of proposed actions, and implement recommendations.
Knowledge, interpretation and application of pertinent Federal, Provincial, and Municipal policies, procedures, laws, and regulations, including New Brunswick Policing Standards.
Establish and maintain a cooperative working relationship with those contacted in the course of work.
Foster partnerships and teamwork, both internal and external.
Ability to set priorities and identify any areas that require further research.
Successful completion of the security clearance and integrity interview requirements of the Saint John Police.
Knowledge of Saint John Police policies and standard operating procedures would be an asset.
Demonstrated ability to handle sensitive and / or confidential information.
Strong planning and organizational skills.
Demonstrated ability to multitask and work without supervision.
Good judgment and able to make decisions in a timely manner; be able to set time lines and meet deadlines.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:
A university degree in Law, Public Policy, Business Administration or related discipline or a combination of education and experience will be considered.
Two to five years of relevant experience in policy evaluation, development, research and analysis.
Current or previous experience working in a police environment is a definite asset.
