Overview

Do you have experience in the development of public policy or regulation? We have an 18-month opportunity for a policy analyst to develop and present draft policy and regulation proposals, assist with the public consultation process, provide advice, and perform duties related to our statutory and legal responsibilities under the Workers Compensation Act and the Occupational Health and Safety Regulation. You\xe2\x80\x99ll assist with research, legislative amendments, and briefing materials on diverse subject areas: law, medicine, compensation, assessment, prevention, occupational disease, and occupational hygiene.

In this role, you\xe2\x80\x99ll have the opportunity to support the development of effective occupational health and safety policies that make a difference in the lives of workers and employers in British Columbia.

This temporary assignment is eighteen months in length.

Where you\xe2\x80\x99ll work

At WorkSafeBC, we offer a hybrid work model that combines the convenience of working remotely with the dynamism of working in one of our offices, based on the operational needs of the position.

In this role, you\xe2\x80\x99ll work primarily from your B.C. home and occasionally in our Richmond office.

What you\'ll do

As a policy analyst you will:

  • Design, conduct, and manage research, regulation, and policy projects
  • Assist in developing policy and regulation to support legislative, regulatory, and policy revisions
  • Participate in the public consultation process regarding policy and regulation development
  • Attend Board of Directors\xe2\x80\x99 meetings, internal working committee meetings, and stakeholder consultations to present draft policy and regulatory proposals
  • Prepare discussion papers, memoranda, briefing notes, and other materials related to compensation, assessment, prevention, and occupational health and safety matters
  • Develop a comprehensive knowledge of WorkSafeBC policy, regulation, and practice

We\xe2\x80\x99re looking for someone who can:
  • Conduct effective oral presentations to a variety of audiences
  • Provide leadership, direction, and support to staff
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with internal and external stakeholders
  • Gather and analyze information, recognize problems and opportunities, create and evaluate alternatives, develop solutions, and make appropriate decisions and recommendations
  • Plan and schedule work, develop realistic action plans, and manage time effectively
  • Communicate effectively in writing and be proficient with MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
Your experience and background:
  • A graduate degree in a related field such as law, occupational hygiene, engineering, public administration, or business administration
  • A minimum of two years of experience in the interpretation and application of legislative, policy, and regulatory requirements is preferred
  • Working knowledge of one or more of the following areas is preferred: health and safety regulations, the Workers Compensation Act, workers\xe2\x80\x99 compensation policy and practice, or statistical analysis
  • An equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered
Written samples required:
