About Our Opportunity
This is an exciting opportunity for those interested in working with the Department of Agriculture, those who possess experience in a regulatory environment conducting research and analysis, drafting regulations and distilling complex information for diverse audiences as well as those who excel at analyzing and reviewing complex issues and developing and presenting recommendations.
Primary Accountabilities
As the Policy Analyst, you will provide research, analysis, advice, and document preparation for the Department and will play a key role in guiding the Department's planning, policy, programming, legislative and regulatory design by providing recommendations for the Department Executive on program alternatives for Nova Scotia.
You will lead internal review of Departmental projects by facilitating timely development, appropriate consultation, and proper navigation through the internal Departmental and Government-wide approval structures.
As the Policy Analyst, you will be based in Bible Hill and report to the Manager, Policy, who is based in Bible Hill.
Qualifications and Experience
You have a Bachelor's Degree in public administration, economics, business, law (or acceptable education equivalent) is required, plus five (5) years' relevant experience; or a Master's degree plus three (3) years' relevant experience.
You should also have knowledge of policy, trade, statistics, and legislative development in a government environment. The incumbent will have a proven ability to deal with complex processes, ideally through application of formal project management tools. Required interpersonal skills include a strong client service orientation and the ability to work collaboratively and remotely in a dynamic environment.
As the successful candidate, you must be able to communicate complex topics effectively in both written and oral forms; experience with public consultations would be considered an asset. You are fully proficient in a Microsoft Office environment, including word processing, spreadsheets, and presentation tools. Experience with: analytical thinking; client orientation; adaptability & flexibility; effective interactive communication and outcome focus would be considered an asset.
