Pneumatic Technician – Air Brake Systems

Job Summary:



The Pneumatic Technician is responsible for assembling, installing, testing, and maintaining pneumatic systems used in vehicle braking and control systems within a transportation manufacturing environment. This role focuses on air brake system integration and ensures all pneumatic assemblies meet design specifications, quality standards, and safety requirements before vehicles leave production.

Key Responsibilities:



Assemble and install air brake systems and related pneumatic components on vehicles or subassemblies according to engineering drawings, blueprints, and manufacturing instructions. Inspect, test, and calibrate air systems to verify pressure integrity, leak-free operation, and compliance with DOT and company standards. Troubleshoot and repair pneumatic circuits, valves, compressors, air dryers, tanks, and brake chambers during assembly or post-production testing. Interpret pneumatic schematics and engineering documentation to ensure accurate installation and routing of hoses, lines, and fittings. Collaborate with engineering and quality teams to identify design or assembly improvements related to pneumatic performance or manufacturability. Perform preventive maintenance on pneumatic tools, testing rigs, and assembly equipment. Document all testing, inspections, and adjustments in accordance with quality assurance and production traceability requirements. Follow safety procedures when working with pressurized systems, ensuring compliance with OSHA and company safety regulations. Support continuous improvement and lean manufacturing initiatives related to pneumatic systems and assembly processes.

Qualifications:



High school diploma or GED required; technical or trade school certificate in Pneumatics, Diesel Technology, or Industrial Maintenance preferred. 2-5 years of experience working with pneumatic systems, air brakes, or related vehicle systems in a manufacturing or assembly environment. Solid understanding of DOT air brake standards and FMVSS compliance requirements. Ability to read and interpret mechanical and pneumatic schematics. Proficient in using pneumatic testing tools, pressure gauges, torque wrenches, and leak detection equipment. Strong mechanical aptitude, troubleshooting ability, and attention to detail. Effective communication skills and ability to work in a team-oriented production environment.

Physical Requirements:



Ability to lift and handle components up to 50 lbs. Frequent standing, bending, kneeling, and reaching. Comfortable working around production equipment, moving vehicles, and compressed air systems.
