As the Plumber within Kitchener Utilities, you will be responsible for performing a variety of skilled and manual work related to the maintenance, installation and repair of the City's water meters to ensure proper operation.
Responsibilities
Performs a full range of meter maintenance, repair and exchange duties on positive displacement, compound, ultrasonic, mag, and turbine meters.
Repairs leaks and tests meters of various sizes.
Accounts for the installation/inspections of meters.
Reads meters and performs shut offs as required.
Install all sizes of water meters, some meters in pits and confined spaces. Must be able to do confined space work including wearing a respirator.
Provides courteous customer service; responds to questions and complaints from the general public as it relates to minor leak repairs and consumption (including investigations) or general water meter-related inquiries.
Conducts water meter sizing for larger water users.
Performs accuracy verification on meters and enters test data into spreadsheets.
Back-up crew leader duties, as required.
Conducts high water consumption investigations.
Track and dispense water meters to contractors for new construction.
Maintains documentation related to work performed.
Performs other related duties as assigned.
Requirements
Minimum Grade 12 education.
Minimum one (1) year related experience (i.e., installing, repairing, replacing, and conducting accuracy verifications on positive displacement meters).
Valid plumber's certificate of qualification (306A).
Valid "G" Class driver's license in good standing. Provide Drivers Abstract at your own expense as a condition of employment
Knowledge of installation, repair, replacement and accuracy verification practices for varying types of water meters.
Demonstrated knowledge of applicable requirements under the Occupational Health and Safety Act and Regulations.
Proven experience in the maintenance and repair of water infrastructure including meters and service pipes.
Working knowledge of relevant Federal, Provincial and Municipal codes, laws and regulations.
Experience with the use of a computer, to document and retrieve information using various computer applications such as Microsoft Office.
Proven ability to read and interpret maps, blueprints, and diagrams and to perform mathematical calculations, as required.
Physically capable of lifting and carrying weights up to 60lbs,
Effective listening, verbal & written communication/customer service skills with the ability to keep accurate records.
Ability to work both independently and within a team environment.
Able to work in varied environments and weather conditions.
Ability to support and project values compatible with the organization.
Willing and able to successfully complete training as required.
Must be able to work Saturdays and shift work.
Reliable with a good attitude and employment record.
